600 restricted to 33bhp?

hey guys, am i right in thinking that at 19, i could do my full bike license and then ride a 600, restricted to 33bhp?

Ive been ringing around and all the insurance companies seem to says they wnt insure it.

i was thinking of a gsxr 600.

if this is possible, anyone have suggestions for insurance???

Check gocompare, I can get insured on an SV650 for fairly cheap and I'm 19. Just put in the details as if you already had your license etc.

Not sure about a Gixxer but then I'm sure the forum will have their tales about what is suitable as a first big bike.

At 17 you can do your test and ride any bike of 25kW or less (about 33hp) with a power to weight ratio limit. After 2 years it turns into an unlimited license.

Get whatever bike you want and just restrict it. I'm 19 with a VFR 800 restricted to 33hp.. it weighs 220kg aswell and i still manage easy. So these tales about some bikes being unsuitable is toffee

i see, so it is do-able, who are u insured with then? cos so far, EVERYONE i have tried says the gsxr is a high performance bike and wont insure me on a full bike license, at 19, with the bike restricted.

one company said they wouldnt do it as theyve found most ppl remove the restrictions after they have paperwork, too easy to do etc... :/

So you're saying that this particular insurance company refuse to insure anybody with an A2 license and a restricted bike? That's gonna lose them LAAATTTSSSSSA money. If they had any sense about them, surely they'd happily insure you, then when you have an accident they won't have to pay up because they'll check and if the bike isn't restricted, your insurance is void = they make pure profit. Doesn't add up to me :S

VFR800 = Sports tourer
GSXR600 = Super Sport

There is a reason they will cover a VFR and not a GSXR.

Also the engines are completely different, the VFR isn't tuned to be ragged the tits off of, which is why it takes the restriction better than an out right sports bike does.

c_dug... i see what ure saying, i just prefer the looks of the gsxr or i would go for a tourer type.

bt ye, i had thought that the insurance wouldnt care, and accept my money knowing the insurance would most likely be invalidated, then refuse to pay out, bt no :/

They do have to pay up though, just that they can then look to claim the costs back from you after.

The thing is, it is still a GSXR, I have 3 years no claims and my insurance isn't cheap on one

Why dont you just use the bikeinsurer or some online screen scraper/insurance comparison website instead.

Personally i think taking a gsxr600 and 33bhp'ing it just takes the heart out of the bike, you'd be much better going for a smaller/tourer bike when you're on the 33bhp limit.
If you prefer the race rep style and don't want a tourer, go for a VFR400 or RVF maybe

What about a GSXF 650, looks good (IMO), got sports style fairing (based on K5's) and is classed as an all rounder rather than a super sports so insurance is a lot cheaper (over £2,500 for one year with me), either way, compared with a 125 it'll go like stink
