Anyone have any tips for clearing out a blocked ear? Got a cold and it's been blocked for about an hour. Need some suggestions... hate this feeling.

Hydrogen peroxide ear drops are good. But as it's Sunday afternoon and pharmacies are probably closed, you could water down some household bleach and use a few drops of that instead.

I remember having the warmed olive oil treatment when I was a kid... Not a particularly pleasant experience but I seem to remember that it was effective.

(Although if you were anywhere near me, I'm sure I have some prescription ear drops at home)

Try sticking your head over some steam. Boil some water in a pan.

Although when i have a blocked ear/ear ache nothing helps other then proper ear drops.

This, but I'd also recommend putting some vix vapour rub (about a teaspoon or two) into a bowl of hot water (fresh from the kettle is best) let it melt, put a towel over your head which you put above the bowl, the towel is there to help trap the steam.. It should unblock your sinuses and help with getting rid of your cold fairly well. Might help with your ear too.

Masturbate but at the critical moment put your thumb over the jap's eye. The back pressure will clear your ear.

I always syringe my own ears.

10-20ml syringe and some warm water. Keep the warm water going into your ear and eventually all the shit will come out with it.

Sorry... but I wouldn't expect many of the above to work. These are mostly remedies for ear wax (I have found syringing, hydrogen peroxide and scuba diving all good ways of clearing that out) but if you have a cold your problem is inside the ear in the tubes between the inner ear and the sinuses. Unless you've ruptured an ear drum there is no connection between the outside (where the wax lives) and the inside (that gets blocked when you have a cold).

Probably a decent decongestant is your best option. TV Chimp's Vicks-n-steam option may help. Just plain steam is better than nothing.

+1

About 15 years ago whilst in Spain I experienced problems with my ears. I purchased a syringing kit from a pharmacia which was basically a rubber sphere about the size of a tennis ball with a nipple protruding from it. Gently squeezing warm water from the sphere into the affected ear worked wonders.
When I misplaced the kit a few years ago and attempted to buy a replacement one, at a local pharmacy in The UK, the pharmacist nearly had a fit when I told her what I wanted.
