If you're that itchy you could think about Spain, Portugal and North Africa during the winter months, as in theory they are at least drier. You can get the ferry down to Northern Spain, which may well be wet, but you can then ride South towards the sunshine!!

Won't be long before the best passes close for the winter.. 'THE' road of my trip this year.. the Grossglockner doesn't open until the 1st of May. I was there in early june and at one point was riding between walls of snow 15' or more high.

Think personally you've left it too late for another Alpine trip.. you're almost certain to get drenched.. even if you don't experience any snow or ice.
head south. And think about the Alps for Next spring/summer. ____________________ 1999 R1100GS + 2006 F800S

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself. |

Yup - Agree with the above - Alpine passes in general are best ridden between early June until late September.
Just wait until the highs start hitting again in February. The daylight hours make for great riding in the second month when you get those clear sunny days ...wrap up warm and it could be Summer With the added advantage of no butterflies or day trippers out on the roads spoiling the best lines on the bends... and no coppers out to levy the "Bike Tax" on the best roads
UK and Eire benefit most from the early highs ... continental journeys maybe a bit...err Bracing until late March. ____________________ Gaffer Tape is like The Force.
