Generators

Not getting one yet, but might aswell ask while I think on.

What generators do you have for tyre warmers? I reckon I might get one for next year but don't fancy paying hundreds for one. From my limited time of looking at tyre warmers I couldn't see a power drain figure, but looking at forums it seems a 1KW generator is enough.

Has anyone ever used those two stroke generators for tyre warmers? I never see them in the paddock so does this mean they're no good?

Brother got one from Macro (not sure if you have one) but it was 199 quid. Think it bangs out something like 2kW, but it ran both of our sets of tyrewarmers all day, plus kettle etc no problems at Cadwell.

Am sure it's only 150 now aswell.

Well worth the investment though, another thing ticked off the list for our first race round next year.

Get a Honda. They'll keep going forever.

And get something that's got enough current for your tyre warmers as well as a few other bits and bobs, better to have too much current than not enough.

Those little two stroke generators aren't up to running tyre warmers.

I've got one for running a big ass light, and a soldering iron, but it won't even run a small electric heater.

You need a decent 2kw 4 stroke one. Ideally Honda.

Yeah, looks as though tyre warmers draw about 1.5KW, is that about right?

I seem to remember it being a bit less than that, more like 1.1, 1.2 but you want a fair bit of redundancy on the generator.

The two stroke ones are rated to 750w.

I think they are generally around 1.2kw, so go for 2kw to be safe.


I'm going to be around your area in the next week MarkJ, but unfortunately won't have the time to get down to Blue_SV650s.

You could always try shiply, sometimes get some reasonable deals on there, especially if you're not in a hurry.

Good idea about Shiply G Blue, how big is the genny, I had a look at a few in B&Q today and their 2.5KVA one was absolutely ginormous

A friend has a tiny 900w genny that happy runs his single set of warmers. It is a nice size too, not in a large cage like the bigger ones.

Another friend has a 2.2 and a 3.3, the cage for both is basically the same size. We've happily had 4 sets of warmers running from the 3.3 all day and the warmers actually got upto temp, but we were staggering the times they were switched on.

Cool, I've just bought that Aldi one, seems really sturdy and for a 3.2KW it's a reasonable size. It'll come in use for running other things off it so the size isn't too much of an issue

I always prefer honda because there is many more things i like in honda and what i wanted to say its a powerful.
