I currenyly use synthetic chain lube on my chain but am wondering if chain wax has any advantage over lube. What do you guy's use?

I use engine oil and a paintbrush.

Expensive lubes are not required, wax doesn't fling as much but is sticky so it attracts dirt which acts as a grinding paste.

Others use gear oil, chainsaw oil, used engine oil etc at a similar price (mere pennies).

Wurth Dry Chain lube Thumbs Up

This is really good stuff, may be a bit expensive but worth it. I had a manky old chain when I bought my commuter, cleaned it up and it was a little tight. Put some of this on and it was as good as new. It's clear as well so no gungy spray on the chain. The chain shines like a new one after application and it doesn't fling off.

It's not sticky either so the chain remains clean for weeks. As said others use different products such as engine oil etc. All work well but I just prefer the no mess approach and a tin lasts for ages.

Used to use the green slim stuff, but just went everywhere and picked up so much grit.
Not tryed engine oil, will give that a shot.
At the moment im using muckoff, but im wiping the chain slightly after to stop any flinging off.

What about chain cleaners?? Ive used loads, and pretty 'meh' with all of them. I had to use white spirit the other day (last resort) Worked like a charm, altho not great for the chain Crying or Very sad

Paraffin, get it from B+Q (sold as outdoor lamp fuel), homebase (called parasene) etc for £5 for 4L, works like white spirit but is safe on the O rings. Spray or brush it on, scrub out the junk with a VERY soft toothbrush (10p from tesco) and wipe it down before applying lube.

Jobs a good un Thumbs Up .

Crap in my experience.

Doesn't seem to do anything.

I used it and the chain squeaked pretty much non-stop.

I now use ipone sand chain, which is designed for off road bikes, but it does a far better job on the road bike too. Thumbs Up

I have some Silkolene Semi-Synthetic and some PJ1 Blue Label lubes in the garage...
https://www.msa-direct.co.uk/ProdImages/Silkolene_chain_lube_lrg.jpghttps://images.motorcycle-superstore.com/productimages/OG/0000_PJ1_Blue_Label_Chain_Lube.jpg

The Silkolene seems to be relatively thin consistency, so works best at the end of a ride when I can spray it on and leave it for a while

The PJ1 tends to be more gloopy, and also tends to fling off more easily, even though it claims not to
