OK, another one followed me home. Actually several have followed me home since I last posted, but all were for part out or repair / resale........... till this.
First off, it's a freakin touring bike, but I want one for certain 2500+ mile trips I have planned, so I bought it.
https://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/Volvacious/Cycles/downloadfile-1.jpg
It's in need of a decent set of carbs (these are repairable, but would rather find some that some gorilla hasn't already had holt of), starter solenoid, backrests need recovered, clutch needs redone (easiest part of it all) and it's in SERIOUS need of a good clean and polish.
Previous owner noticed the clutch slipping at hard acceleration and just parked it last fall....... sadly, out in the weather.
After some tinkering and cleaning of the fuel tank and removal / cleaning of the carbs, it runs, but really needs a better set of carbs to rebuild. I can use the ones I have if I can't find a set decent enough, just don't want to.
Anyway, I'll be posting up a project thread on her when I get some more parts (cash) collected up.
Frank

It's definitely an oddity
It's a 1993 Kawasaki Voyager 1200, big brother to the Concours.
Weird Kaw/clairion stereo, elec. cruise control, giant bags and trunk, monster tiller bars, onboard adj. air ride.................. and well, it's certainly different! lol
Pic shows it as it sat when I bought it. It looks no better now |

Just a small update on one odd bike.
I've gotten her running and been for a few short rides, but there's more to do.
The clutch master is gummed up and not letting the clutch fully engage. Will be on tearing it down and fixing before the weekend.
Carburetors .............. AH the carburetors. I've had them off and back on more times than I care to think of. They've been "professionally massaged" into being pure junk. Got a NOS set coming in post.
Starter solenoid is toast, got it coming in same post.
Thermostat "tube" is leaking. Looks to be around the "O"rings, so got them and a water pump rebuild kit coming in post as well.
Fiddled around and got the radio working. WEIRD thing that.
Don't know if the electronic "cruise control" is good or not, as the speedometer drive is stripped (still looking for a replacement, things are HIGH).
1200 "Ninja's Gramps" sounds FUNNY on super quiet pipes. Might have to do something with that.
Deleted the factory CB. I have no idea where I'd ever want such a thing and deleting it gave more storage space (as this tiny tourer is so lacking. lol).
Windscreen's got to be replaced. Oh well, maybe I can still ride it after the appendages it takes to buy a replacement have been removed.
Gotta weld the lever that pushes the center stand down back on. Something tells me I'm gonna want that center stand working on this 2 ton beast.
Turn signals inop, but should be a simple sort. We'll see once it's time to look that far.
Missing a latch for one of the small (there's only 500 storage compartments on this thing!) storage lids, and not a clue where to find a spare yet. Seems most everything is still available for this bike, but those.
The giant tiller handlebars actually feel pretty nice on the ride, so going to leave them as they are I think.
Still have to get the backrests reupholstered. Seats were actually very nice under all the grime.
Not counting a future paint job, I should be out for under 1000 spent, so no complaints there.
In the end, I've got a VERY different bike, that's actually quite comfortable on my old self, and will be ready for 1k+ miles per day soon.
Oh, a pic to show how much crap the factory can shove in a fairing. (This is the big brother to the concours for comparison).

Are you in the US or UK?
"Last fall", "Turn signals" you sound suspiciously American...
Still, cool project |

I like it. I tend to think that in a particular class of bikes some may not be far off the one everyone has heard of, but are a lot cheaper when old, as simply no one has heard of them.
I've got a TT600, which was not quite on a par with the sportsbikes of its year, but consequently is a lot cheaper now.
I'm aware of the zrx1200 as a cheaper alternative to a bandit 1200, and now I see what I think of as a gold wing, but its a kawasaki.
I love the idea of a bike with cruise control.
Theres a uk one on ebay at the moment in fact

If I ever had a bike like that I would feel a bizarre compulsion to fill all the luggage things up all of the time. I would put books and clothes and food and... Whatever I could fit in them... I would just want them full every time I went out on it... |

I'd love one of these in the future.
Amazing bike capable of every day 'all round' kinda stuff am I right?
Can do your shopping on it, go to work on it, go touring on it, the works! (you watch some smart arse come along and say "you can't green lane on it or do trackdays" shush, that's not what I meant!).
Great bike, 2 wheeled car, whatever
How easy would it be to run modern tech, i.e an iPod or similar, through the stereo?
Keep us updated with pics
Cheers,
Steve. |

Very interesting looking bike. I always knew these types of motorcycle had a lot of gadgets but what do they all do? Even got glove boxes, speakers & heater?
Any links to somewhere that explains what everything does? |

I've got 3 one page (xcf OR pdf) descriptions uploaded here if you want to download and view.
There's more, but that's what I've got so far.
It no longer has the CB. I deleted it a couple weeks ago, it has all other options.
There's things on here that I'll likely never use!
Where the CB panel was on the fairing is now a 12v power port (actually the cb panel was just a lid over the power port, I just got another flip lid like the one covering the air control ports for the front and rear suspension on the right side of the fairing and put it in the cb panel's place.
All this weird stuff and no heated grips
The heated grips and and an optional heater blower (ties into the cooling lines and blows air to a duct that you tie into your gear) are planned for as soon as the finances allow. (bout 120 for the heater).
As I'm old, I might even pull the seat cover and install a heat coil on it's own control.
May even put A/C on this thing some day for the heck of it.
OH there is one option it doesn't have. You could get a power adjustable (up / down) windscreen. This one's only manually adjustable (have to pull the trim piece to adjust). Probably going to try a Volvo window regulator (cut down) to make mine power adjustable for the heck of it, we'll see.
The pillion seat adjusts forward and aft just as a car seat would. The seat bottom and the backrest / trunk slide forward and aft on a rail as a car.
The center stand is awesome. You just put the stand down first (doesn't quite touch the ground), then stand on the "jack lever" that lifts the bike on the stand and locks it there.
Even the pillion has left and right glove boxes in the top of the saddle bags (yup, the storage has storage ).
TONS of fuel (don't know the actual volume yet).
Oddly, pillion has floor boards and you have pegs, from factory. Will most likely stay this way. Already has forward pegs as well.
Even has an electrolyte level monitor for the battery, in the cluster. Since I'm going AGM, this will be converted to indicate that the trunk is open (yup, even has a lit trunk), so I don't run the bat down if the switch should fail or such.
55amp alternator! Yikes there's some electronics on this thing! Actually, stock was 35amp but the previous owner had it swapped for the 55amp unit as he pulled a trailer with electric brakes.
He kept the trailer so I'll be looking to either build one or buy one that needs fixed up cheap. Why???? lol I really don't know, just want one! Actually I'm going for full campage with a nice tent, cooking gear and such in the trailer.
There's even an NON stock power / heated mirror option for these things
That's all I can think of at the moment.
