After a very unsexy and dumb 'falling over numb foot' incident I am in plaster for 6 weeks due to a mid-shaft spiral facture of my *left* 5th metatarsal.

3 weeks in to the torture (for me and my suffering but fantastic other half), with 3 weeks to go until the cast comes off, I am wondering how long before I can ride again?

I realise that it may have not healed and I could end up back in plaster but given that it is my gear change foot how much longer should I leave it after the cast comes off?

About 2 months I think; but that was about 5 months before it even started healing.
However, I did have a bit of metal to hold it together before then.

Well I broke my leg and had my leg in a cast for 9 weeks. The last two of those weeks I was offroading and walking on the cast as if it was nothing.

As soon as the cast came off I didn't want to put my foot on the floor but just natural I think. Next day I was hooning around.

I broke my fibia (leg), it was in cast for 6 weeks.

I got back on my bike the day it came out of cast, it was bloody painful and hard to change gear though, I couldn't ride at any serious pace.

It probably took another couple of months to heal properly out of cast, I did some Motocross the week it was out of the cast, and fell off, possibly the most painful thing ever! I could ride my bike, straight away, but my leg hardly had any strentgh, and it was pretty painful, its healed fine now, and I don't even notice that I had broken it.

I was drinking lots of milk and taking calcium supplements to speed the healing process up!

It was suggest that I might have to have a plate put on it but the consultant decided that it would probably heal okay without surgery - dont know if that is a good thing or not!

I cannot wait to get back out on the bike but I am apprehensive about putting weight on it once the cast comes off - dont want to damage it any more than it already is!!!

While it would be a better story if I had done it coming off the bike I am glad I didnt have the associated injuries (and potential infections!)

Suppose its going to be a case of try it and see - 3 weeks and counting down.....

Back in July, I was putting up some staging, and dropped a section on my right foot, breaking the 1st metatarsal in half.

No surgery needed, 6 weeks in plaster, and I was straight on the Burgman. (Having no foot controls helps Wink ).

It was about another 2 weeks before I felt OK to ride my motorbike.
It's still a little sore and slightly swollen, but pretty much OK, except that my right boot is still a little tight.

It'll be fine, just give it time. Thumbs Up

After my big one, which damaged my achillies, foot, ankle and lower leg (and pelvis), once I'd learnt to walk again (after hydro) and four months on crutches, and could get my foot/ankle into a boot again...I was back on the bike.

I did have to have the gear pedal altered though, I had to have it set higher so that I didn't have to flex my foot under it to change gear.

I broke my femur and had it internally nailed.

I was riding eight weeks later.
