hi, in july i bought a bridgestone bt45 rear from a local tyre shop for my cb500, it was obviously brand new and the right size but now 1500 miles later it is completly knackered, i havnt done any trackdays, burnouts, and havnt road it THAT hard. i no for a perfomance bike that might be about the norm for a super stickey tyre but on a commuter bike with a touring tyre thats just not right? , is it worth getting in contact with bridgestone direct? maybe a faulty tyre? any help would be appreciated.
cheers
Joe

Was the wheel put on straight? How do you ride, use gearbox to slow down a lot or brake? I tend to use gearbox (bad habbit) and go through tyre and chain quite quick. 1500 miles is still shit so if everything is straight and your psi has been spot on i would make a complaint.

Why is using engine braking a bad habbit? My understanding was that this was the better (more efficient, etc).
Plus, dropping a few cogs feels cooler than using the brakes. Laughing

Got the best part of 10,000 out of my GPZ's rear, I don't tend to take it particularly easy either.

because is you are anything like me and ride to fast and brake late then you will get slight tyre slide and stretching of the chain. Agree it fells a better stop but at an expense.

Because you are putting more stopping force through the rear tyre than you would normally braking. So it will wear the tyre and chain out quicker.

(Doubt you can actually feel the chain stretch though, unless you ride a buell or something which isn't really a chain)

yea it was all done properly, i dont tend to use the gearbox THAT much slowing down but i do get a move on sometimes.
I had a bt45 on my gpz500 and it was half worn when i got the bike, i put a further 2000 miles on it and it still had loads of life left
btw im running ohlins shocks set up fine
cheers

blip the throttle when changing down gears. takes a bit of practice but does eventually feel smoother and wears things down less when done correctly.
got any pictures of the said tyre? also you sure it didn't have a slow puncture or something?

il get a pic of it tomorow morning, theres no loss in pressure since i had it fitted. theres seems to be a band in the middle where it is bald that looks very different in colour compared to the sides.
cheers

Sounds very much like over-inflation.

Blipping the throttle will make it smoother, but it won't reduce the amount of wear to the tyre by much, which was the point about engine braking.

I'd be looking at tyre pressures and wheel alignment! Thumbs Up
