Hi, just watched a film called "Basic" with Samuel L Jackson and John Travolta.

Now, I watch a lot of films and never feel the urge to post on a forum about them Rolling Eyes but must admit, Basic is worth the post...

I won't go into too much detail on what it's about.. read the synopsis here:

https://www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=126865

I bought it on DVD about 2 or so weeks ago, but never really was bothered to watch it.. bored tonight so stuck it on..

It REALLY keeps you planted all the way through, it's not an "action" film as such, it's like "Phone Booth" another great film, you have to properly concentrate when watching it, it leads you on numerous story lines and your sat there wondering who done it...

Just as I thought I'd worked it out (basically because the two main characters in the film had "worked" the mystery out) just as I turned the lights back on thinking the film was over Shocked it takes a very good twist again and the story line completely changes and the mystery is resolved and it wasn't even what I was expecting.

So if your into "clever" films that keep you guessing, have good actors with a believable and intense storyline, then I reccomend you rent / buy "Basic"

Sorry for the long review, am bored and felt like reccomending this film to you as it's the best I've seen in ages (along with School of Rock, that film was brilliant! Thumbs Up)

Karma Karma Karma Karma out of 5!

It makes my top 10 list too Shocked

It's cool - I'm old enough (and nerdy enough) to know what you mean.

To those confused - Basic is a really old programming language Rolling Eyes

Mark

P.S. ...and yeah, it's an awesome movie Thumbs Up

I know what you mean too. I learned to program on a BBC.

The Film itself is class too. I got it a few months back and liked it as well! 5*.

I knew what you meant, and I thought the thread was going to be about the language, not the movie! Embarassed Laughing Wink

Beginners All Symbolic Instruction Code from memory.

Not used BBC basic since 1987. Mind you I think we have some BBC stuff floating around (couple of boxes of unused 5.25" disks, etc).

All the best

my first computer 12 years ago when l was 5 was a "286" spent hours making "basic" games from "basic computer games, mictocomputer edition" book.

shows how games have changed.

Example of half a program:

russian Roulette:

1 print tab(28);"russian roulette"
2 print tab(15);"creative computing morristown, new jersey"
3 print:print:print
5 print "this is a game of>>>>>>>>>>>russian roulette
10 print:print "here is a revolver."
20 print "type `1` to spin chamber and pull trigger."
22 print "type `2` to give up."
23 print "go"
25 n=o
30 input I
31 if I<>2 then 35
32 print " chicken!!!!!"
33 goto 72
35 n=n+1

Thats weird - i just watched that film this afternoon, and well...............erm................umm................... didnt get it. Confused

Thought it was good up until the last 20 minutes - i blame the missus, as she came home about that point and my concentration went, and then we went out.

Had to return DVD without getting a chance to re-watch the end.

YamsR6 can you send me a PM explaining WTF it was all about??? Didnt get the end, and couldnt work out who did what ?? Embarassed Embarassed
