We haven't had a tyres thread for at least a week so I thought I would oblige.

Well my tyres are at the end of their life after a rather wet 2000 miles so it's new rubber time tomorrow. Very Happy At last I can justify getting rid of the OE Michelin Pilots Sports to the wife and spending a wad on something new.

Decisions, decisions. I'm contemplating sticking some Pirelli Diablos on, anyone tried them on a larger capacity sports machine? If so what they like?

The other tyre I might well go with and I'm probably more likely to go this way, is the Mezeler Sportec's. I had these on my last bike for around 200 miles before it was written off. First impressions were good so I might try them again, hopefully for a few miles this time.

Had loads of Dunlops and Mitchelins so no more for the time being.

Any mags done a recent tyre group test?

I was running Metzeler Sportecs on my MZ supermoto (one every 2k miles!). They were pretty good, toecap-down angles of lean and a nice, predictable squirm then slide at the back when you fed in the power on a dry road, told you exactly when they were going to break away.

I am now running Maxxis Sportmaxx tyres which externally are indestinguishable from the metzelers (other than the name stamped on the side, they are a Taiwanese copy, the new Cheng-Shin but gone up market) and in my oppinion, make the bike handle even better. Which is handy as they are £30 cheaper per back tyre Very Happy . No major 'moments' in the wet either, other than the usual diesel spills.

I am going to try some of those remoulds on it next, some of the super-sticky ones, see how long it takes to shred all the tread off it and make it pointy Cool

I ran Konkordes on my zx9.

Did about 6 trackdays too until it broke away in an instant coming out of the hairpin, no warning nothing just gone

and they are S H I T E in the wet

we have just brought some pirelli dragon evos for my chaps bandit very good tyres would recommend them......... Thumbs Up
they are good in the wet and dry so what more can you ask for in a tyre......... Very Happy

£160 for the two.......

we also asked about michelin pilot sports when buying and was told by 2 companys that they are good in the dry but not to good in the wet and that they wear down rather quickly so not to bother unless we were going to use them for dry track days.........

the price for the michelins were £235 for the two...........

good luck in getting some good tryes.

Just thought I'd say it was the Diablos in the end. Same price as the Metzelers and the fitter recommended them.

Have Dunlop D207's on the RF. Lovely grip on the front end but the back end leaves a bit to be desired especially in the wet.

The 207F is quite an old tyre now, they have been OE on quite a few brands for sometime and they are showing their age a bit now.

I believe they have been replaced by the 208's, but I suppose it depends on what you want from a tyre and how hard you push it.

I'm still rating the 207rr's highly after ~2k miles, feel fine in the wet and unbelievably solid in the dry.
Anything that can make a 13 year old ZZR1100 feel like it does something approaching handling has my respect Wink

So far i'll recommend D208's and BT010's to anybody for wet or dry weather.

Both are great. Thumbs Up
