I picked up a Shell Drivers Club card yesterday when filling up with petrol, I now get a £2.50 fuel voucher once I've filled up with 500 litres of petrol Laughing

Well, I fill up around 12 litres a week, so it's going to take me 42 weeks until I get my £2.50.

Every little helps as they say. Mind you, my landrover guzzles the stuff so it pays for me to have one Laughing

I was going to look into getting one of these, but £2.50 for 500litres is silly... using the tesco 5p off thingies would do that in 5 tanks...

But then i only run on shell

I have a morrisons petrol card that gives £5 off the shopping after you have used 333 ltr.
Or my Nector card and add to the points stacking up on that for xmas binge Laughing

Anyone else noticed that supermarket petrol in no longer the cheapest around and in some cases 2p per ltr dearer than some garages.... Noticably Shell ones. I guess Shell are on a promotion at the moment to try and up sales...

I use tescrap mostly as its the cheapest and closest. Added to the 5 pence off deals they run they also give club card points which would work out double the cash back. £500 in petrol = 500 club card point = £5 off. Ok you cant use it for refueling but an extra fiver off your groceries is still a saving.

But then Tescos is more expensive than ASDA.

I think we can conclude that you get absolutely nothing from loyalty cards Laughing

That would depend on certain factors. I could go to ASDA and save about £5 on my shopping for the week but It would cost me that £5 just to get there and back. Tescrap however is just a 10 minute walk away from my place and works out cheaper in the long run for me.

Added to the fact that with their loyalty card points we have used the option to save all the points until december and as a result over the year we have saved more than enough to buy the xmas shopping. In essence we get our xmas groceries for free!

Mad
This, despite me getting some tokens only the week before.
Since then, no fuel company get's my loyalty.
I go where I get it the cheapest.
As far as I'm concerned, it's about time these rip off merchants started showing some loyalty to us for a change.

Aww bet you'd spent ages picking your gifts too Laughing

I put 60 quids worth in a week and used to always go to BP (nectar points) but now I usually save a few pence by going to supermarkets. Had a few bits from Argos like but it costs over a grand to get a fiver back in vouchers.

With my Mitsubishi I had a loyalty card, and after a few months I registered it online, then they sent me Vpower club card, then my first statement they sent me £37.50 worth of fuel vouchers, you can do the math

You don't buy fuel just for whatever points you can get, the points are just a bonus because you have to buy fuel anyways.

I have a morrisons card because its the same price as every other petrol station in my area and its less than 1 mile away. I also primarily shop at morrisons so its kinda handy getting £5 vouchers every now and again.

I also have a shell card but I've never seen a voucher from it and have since given up on going to shell garages. Especially since the huge number of cards that got cloned from my local shell station.

I'm a firm believer that there's no such thing as a free lunch, ALL loyalty cards come with a cost. Also, those issued by the major supermarkets are used to track and record your personal shopping habits in order that they might maximise their marketing opportunities.
My work vehicle comes with a BP card, so in that sense I suppose I'm getting Nectar points for nothing, but not nearly as many as a couple of years ago when I was doing a night trunk between Carlisle and Glasgow each week night in a class 1.

I have Shell points converted to AirMiles automatically.

I think the only people who lose out on these loyalty cards are those who are brand loyal. I have the three contenders in my purse, and I fill up at the nearest one, as and when I see fit. So it means I win every time.

It has never ever occurred that Texaco has been a cheaper bet...never ever! Cool

I have a shell rewards card and only use shell to fill up my M5. That V10 averages 12mpg and I fill up twice a week. Only get a £10 voucher for fuel every three months Rolling Eyes . Give it to my wife to offset the horrific cost of fueling her car up with derv Crying or Very sad .

Just doesn't seem worth it to make you loyal to one brand.

Yeah, I have a Shell card too.

There are 3 Shell's within 5 miles of me, and they are all usually joint cheapest. Have been for ages.

Mine's set to airmiles. Thumbs Up

Have you registered it online? If you don't register to your address they can't send you fuel vouchers

I've just got a Shell one, after changing jobs to a company that uses shell fuelcards.

I might actually see a bit of benefit from it, as filling up 300 odd litres per day.

My biggest complaint with Shell is that their garages with HGV pumps and access are pretty fucking hard to find, especially in the South.

BP on the other hand are everywhere.

I only fill up at Shell, so I've got a Pluspoints card. I do a fair amount of miles, and still I only get a £10.00 voucher once a year or so.

It's £10 I wouldn't have had, but for that I have had to buy 2000 litres of fuel, which at an average of £1.16 a litre, means I've had to spend £2320... to get £10 back.

Luckily there's a petrol station at my local Sainsburys, so I fill up when I do my shopping and get the Nectar points for both. It usually pays for my chrimbo food and booze shop.

You're better off just visiting a supermarket station every 4/5 fill ups; £2.50 off 500 litres is a saving of 0.5p a litre, or 8.5p for an ER5 fuel tank - less than the final squirt you give the nozzle when filling up.

Yep thats why often when shopping at Sainsburys I get a voucher printed that give £2 off when we spend £20 Mr. Green and offers on products that we use a lot Thumbs Up

When you compare prices of the supermarkets that don't have cards to the ones that do, you will find you average shopping is around the same price over the year.

I don't care that they track and target me with my spending habits... At the end I'm the winner as I get the bonus of the vouchers, when I would still be using the shop anyway. Its the mugs that don't take advantage of the cards that lose out if they still continue to shop at the same stores.
Having a card does not stop me from going to other stores if they have a offer on that will save me money. Karma
