Well, I've still got my producer from last week, and I'm off soon to hand in my documents - i was wondering, what happens then? do I just show them my documents and they write down that i've got them or do they stamp them or something? ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

No, some stupid secretary will check your documents then you walk away, simple!
As long as your documents are in order anyway. |

You show them all the documents that they asked for, and remember to take the bit of paper the police gave you at the side of the road. Check before going that you do definitely have all the necessary bits of paperwork with you, and that they are all in date. Remember to take the bit of paper the police gave to you at the road side with you
Person you'll give it all to for them to check will just be whoever is on the front desk at the time you go there and won't have the slightest clue about whatever happened or is going to happen with you, they're just doing their job so don't be angry towards them. I'd expect them might well take a photocopy of your paperwork so that the front desk person can hand the copies of it to the officer dealing with your producer so they can phone your insurance company if they want to to check it's real. Tis just a simple procedure for them and as long as all your paperwork is upto date then you'll not hear anything more from them about it. |

Phone my insurance company?
(Yes don't worry I'm all insured, i just don't fancy the insurance company putting my premium up because of contact from the police, or whatever)
<edit> My mate's not got a clue what producers are for - he keeps telling his friends that the police gave me a procedure . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

No sweat. I have seen them pull in a group of five bikes and drop everyone a producer for no apparent reason other than they were bored, the insurance company will not attach any significance to it.
In point of fact, there is no good reason for a policeman to give you a producer these days, if he is happy as to your identity, he already knows who the bike is registered to, if it is taxed, MOTed and insured, this info is all on a database. He gave you a producer to cause you inconvenience because he feels you deserve it for whatever reason (like cartwheeling your bike across a public carpark). They will keep you waiting at the police station for the same reason.
I know they have this database system up and running, I was stopped by the police at one point last year after being parked at Heartside cafe because "Our database shows this vehicle as being uninsured". They were correct in a way because it was insured on the frame number (brand new bike, insured before the registration came through) rather than the registration number and so would not show up when they did a search. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Yeah, they said that there were no insurance details on my bike .
I insured it on the 25th of January . ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

And make sure you get down to your local police station within 7 days. You can get someone on the front desk who's had a bad night and is unbelievably petty.
Some years ago, I got a producer, and was working away from home. By the time I got home, found my paperwork and got to the police station 10 miles away it was 11.50pm on the 7th day.
And it was a Friday night.
Thanks to the drunken prat in front of me I didn't get to wave my document in front of the desk sergeant until 7 minutes past midnight. Despite me pointing out that I had walked into the police station well before midnight, he still reported me for failing to produce with seven days. Fortunately the producer had been issued by another police force, and when I rang them about it they were most uncomplimentary about their fellow officers. Never heard another thing. |
