 |
|
Hi all,
I've been thinking long and hard about what to go for in terms of my first big bike.
Narrowed it down to two a zx6r (2000-2002) or a yamaha thundercat.
The zx is my favourite of the two but i'm slightly worried that it might be a bit of a handful compared to the 'cat.
My bike experience so far is about 2500miles on a cbr125 and my DAS on a kwak ER6F.
Also since i'll be using the bike everyday rain or shine will the zx stand up to it like the 'cat should?
Any help appreciated!

I passed my test and jumped straight onto my zx6, albeit not as new as the one your looking at but meh, still the same. Its quick and my first few trips were using less than 7000rpm, i took it too a straight flat road and ragged the shit out of it, shat myself and did it again after a fag.
Thinking about it maybe i should have got a 125 but i havent dropped it, had a few moments and thoroughly enjoyed the extra power. I think people can have 600's as their first bike but just go easy i suppose. I filter, commute occasionally and cover a fair distance too. Most 6's have similar power i think (few exceptions), so its purely personal preference, my mate loves Honda's, my brother loves Yams and im on kwaks. Just test ride a few, from the few 6's ive ridden they all have quite major differences.
enjoy whatever you choose |

My 3rd big bike was a J1 - I wish I had gone for that first.
Just the right ammount of power, just took a bit getting used to the size / and being more forward onto the bars |

No issues with build quality on the J1. Just sold mine and at 34k miles and ten year old it still looked stunning, no rust or corrosion anywhere, the only parts that did corrode were the rear footpeg hangers which I removed and painted and looked good as new.
100% reliable in the time I owned it also (2yrs) It was my first bike and I couldnt of asked for a better introduction to motorcycles - Get one you wont regret it!

Thanks for that guys.
I think i'll go for the ZX tbh. It's not the power that was worrying me, i was planning on getting a zx6 but i was following one home this week and when the guy spanked it away from a roundabout it went into a short but pretty mean looking tankslapper. It made me have second thoughts for a little while!
I love the ZX and the thundercat is in second place for me. Although money issues may make me go for a nice clean G1 rather than the J.
Anyone know what the reliability of the G1 ZX-6R is like?
Thanks again ____________________ Current bike: '98 Yamaha YZF600R Thundercat |
