Hi guys.

I am just posting to ask your opinion of my RST motorcycle jacket. I came off the bike at 30 or 40mph.

I have two issues with the jacket. The first is the crash damage on my left elbow. The stitching seems to be all intact and there are no holes in the jacket, but the leather feels very thin in the areas around the elbow. This is what it looks like. The very thin parts are in the very dark green parts. I don't know why my jacket went green though but it's not like that anymore. I did use some sort of leather restorer type stuff on it though.

My second problem is that although the zip works, very occasionally one side will pop out of the bottom and it will unzip itself from the bottom. This has never happened while riding, but I am concerned it will happen while rolling along the road.

So has my jacket had it?

Thanks for any help.

I would cost up getting the zip replaced and maybe some patches on the elbows, against getting a new jacket.

Definitely a keeper. Next time though, just remember to come off on the right side, and you should be ok. Thumbs Up

My zip manages to un do itself from the bottom up every now and again. Leather looks fine. If your concerned about the zip get it replaced for peace of mine if nothing else.

i'd stil;l keep using it,
im surprised the jacket has as much damage as it does,
i thought leather was supposed to take a hit better, but ive crashed in the same textile jacket 3 times at over 60mph, and its still fine, (ok its a bit raggedy:D) but still more than useable

Dubbin is your friend. Rub it in and leave it...it conditions the leather and keeps it waterproofed to a degree. My leather jeans are something in the region of 15years old, and I keep them in good condition with this stuff. Thumbs Up

I'd still use the jacket, but I'd have an eye out for a good secondhand one to replace it eventually. Looks like you've worn through quite a bit of the leather, must have been a rough road surface, but it did the job Thumbs Up

By the time you've replaced the zip and patched the elbow you could have bought a second hand jacket in perfectly good condition (unless you know somewhere you can get it done really cheap).

There will be some good cheap stuff on E-bay this time of year, lots of weekend warriors changing their gear Wink

Oddly enough I crashed in an RST Fusion jacket, the zip ripped clean open upon hitting the floor..
