When did they become so crap?

I want a new badminton racquet and the choice locally is abysmal.

All they seem to sell is clothes nowadays.

I'll be going to Sports Direct tomorrow in the hope that they'll have something decent in.

I don't want to buy a racquet online - I want to see how it feels before buying.

Most towns have a good little local sports shop. With a guy who knows about the stuff they sell, and always a smile on his face.
I tend to stay away from chain stores, I go back to Lincoln when I need new running shoes (Lincolnshire runner) and go to the hockey shop in Woking for sticks. I have a couple of other general shops i use for other bits and bobs..

JJB used to be the best for actual sports stuff rather than fashion sports or cheap ass sports. They went a bit naff about the time they hit money troubles and sold off a load of shops. Now we have super expensive fashionable but totally 'sports wise' impractical rubbish such as JD's or cheap and nasty breaks after a few uses Sports Direct clones.

I had to do Badminton for my Higher P.E. at school and grew to fucking love the sport - although after you leave school you dont want to do anything physical.

On another note - under the same circumstances, I also hate basketball with a passion.

Pre-accident I used to play Badminton and Squash, was pretty good at them both, and totally beat boring gym time to keep fit.

I tore my Achilies playing badminton 3 weeks ago... people seem to think that its a very slow calm sport.
