ybr125 to a CBR 600f (33bhp)

I went for the cbr eventually; to continue from my last thread a week or two a go and totally don't regret it! First off pictures WILL be coming, but rain etc has meant I haven't taken a single picture of the bike yet, I will, and I will post them!

I was worried about how people have been saying the 33bhp will feel slow, and although I understood it'd be a lot faster than a 125, maybe not quite THAT fast! I'd never touch 100 or try to go near it unless I was on a track (very protective of my license :p), but for someone coming from the ybr it is an amazing power difference and it pulls well at just about every speed I've been Also maintaining speeds up hills and into winds is a non issue now, before if I was riding into the wind it could easily add a few few minutes to my commute and was just painful now the CBR doesn't even seem to be affected!

One thing I've been very careful to do is not ride a bike bigger than I can, ie, when offered I didn't ride a 600 when I only had my cbt, because I knew I'd only want more and my bike would feel horrible and slow, and although 2 years is a LONG time I fully intend to keep it at 33bhp just incase I'd ever have to revert back to it from full power.

But I love the bike! The power, brakes and noise are insane. It also feels a lot safer on the roads being so much bigger and heavier, I have to relearn slow speed maneuvers on it due to the different riding position and size but it doesn't bother me it's so much more comfy and pleasant to ride.

That said having been very wet every friggin day I've had to go very easy, probably not a bad thing, but just taking things slooow for now

Bike related problems;

Just wondering if anyone would know of how to fix some of these issues seeing as it is a 10 year old bike (2000 cbr600fy with 21k on the clocks) I don't think its bad at all but they're just thing's I was wondering about;

1. Not sure if this is a problem, but it clicks/ticks, very quietly, but when it gets warm at idle and I think almost all speeds (all speeds you can hear anything but the exhaust) I can hear a ticking coming from somewhere beneath the clocks, or nearby, maybe its just the bike its not loud or anything but just wondered

2. Squeaky brakes, the front brakes do squeak at low speeds, ie. 10mph and below.

3. When I start her up, especially in the cold, choke fully out, it'll idle for a minute or so, and 3 separate times, its cut out, I think possibly the idle could be set too low or the restrictor getting in the way of the bikes start up maybe? But once its warm you can just hear the engine running so much better.

4. Not sure if this is related to the last one, or a complete non issue, but when I go to start it theres a red oil light, solid red till I start the bike, then it goes.

5. Does the bike even go slower than 30mph? :p It just wants more ALL the time! I love it!

I think thats everything covered... I got into biking as a cheaper alternative to getting to work than a car, intended to keep the 125, I soon fell in love with the little Yamaha and riding, and it didn't take long for my life to revolve around it. I went for my test too get rid of the 'L' plates, and have motorways possible, but after a 10 mile stint on a motorway on the 125, looking at some touring threads here, watching lots of moto gp, and browsing used bikes I found this. So glad I'm a biker.

i wouldnt worry too much about 2 or 4, my cb does the exact same

On the start up you'll find out what she likes and doesn't like.

For example on colder days i'll need to give a decent amount of throttle to get her started and going. And takes a fair while before the engine is totally happy as well.

I have a '98 CBR. Oil light is on when ignition is on but engine isn't started, so don't worry about that. 5 don't worry about, who goes below 30 anyway?
As for question 1, does that noise go away when you pull the clutch in? CBR's have very noisy clutches.

I started her up today with no choke, and she started fine So maybe its just not always needed, gradually getting the hang of it and not stalling :p

The ticking noise doesn't seem to go at clutch it, it almost sounds just like somethings loose maybe a fairing screw not in properly or something, either that or its just an engine noise, but it doesn't seem to be really loud or anything just a ticking... Hopefully its nothing to worry about...

I did have a slight panic when I washed the bike today though and could see no oil in the inspection window. That said I then idle'd it for a bit turned it off and it looked about half full, on the centre stand so I presume its ok!

Went for another ride today, was brilliant fun and am getting slightly more confident although slow speeds still need a lot of work! Thanks for the replies though

The noise could be a cam chain rattle perhaps? Or even a loose engine mount bolt. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable (even though I own one...) will be along shortly to either shoot me down or back my points up.
