Bit annoying really. Got a new tyre fitted and they didnt replace the valve so lost 10psi in a week.

Went to another place to get a new valve and a week later its lost air again.

Pretty sure its the valve again but is there anything I can do to fix it? Its a pain in the arse taking the wheel off and getting a lift into town to get it fixed.

Cheers!

its unlikely to be the value, more likely its leaking from the bead most of the time down to corrosion.

best thing to do is get the tyre off, scrub down the rim, get any crap off, then use a good dollop of tyre sealant and refit.

any friendly tyre place should be able to do this

Yeah the only problem is I dont really trust the first place much to sort it out, would rather go to a proper tyre place. And the valve has already been changed.

Im sure the rim is fine, as the old tyre didnt leak, and when the wheel was put into the water bath the only leak was from the old valve.

Is there anything I can do easily to reseat the valve, or has it been torn when installing it etc?

Tubed or tubeless ?

I take it that the 2nd place took the tyre off to replace the valve?

Try it in a water bath again. If it looks like its still the valve, are you sure they replaced the whole valve and not just the inner bit.

Might as well bite the bullet and take it to a decent place and let them look at it.

If you're based near Folkestone, pop in and see me. I'll change the valve for you.

Sounds like the second place may have only changed the valve core, Could be wrong though.

You do get the occasional bad valve from time to time. We order 5000 at a time, a hand full of them are guaranteed to be leaky.
It may just be unfortunate that your wheel has been fitted with a bad valve.

To change a complete valve, the whole wheel does have to come off.
Being a Bandit6, it's a 5 minute job to remove the wheel as it's got a center stand.

Take your tooling with you in a bag (27mm socket and breaker bar IIRC), and whip the wheel off outside the tyre place if you have to.
Some tyre firms are not insured to provide a ride in - ride out tyre service for bikes. In fact, I think only Watlings are the only mainstream Fast fit center who are actually allowed to remove wheels from bikes.

But yeah, if you're in the south east, The offer's there. Thumbs Up

Thanks Binge, I do live in the SE but in Faversham so its 30 miles away which is a little too far to go. Cheers though.

Nah the second place changed the whole valve, I took in the loose wheel in and they did it there and then.

The wheel is piss easy to remove, just the front end drops like a sack of shit once its off so would need to be supported.

Think ill take it into the place in town and get it done...again.

I can check for air leaks by putting some washing up liquid around the valve I guess. What PSI should i pump the tyre up to when looking? On 33 normally.

Anything up to 45/50PSI when puncture hunting. The higher the pressure, the easier it is to find the leak.

30 miles, Pah! That's nothing. I commute from Gillingham every day. It's nearly a 100 mile round trip. (98 mile to be precise).

Im in on Sunday if it's not urgent.
Could make a good ride of it. When I take the YZF to work I usually ride down the A20, through the back of Canterbury and then onto the A2050, short stretch on the A2, Then onto the A260 through Hawking. Razz

Either way, I'd just have a shot at getting another valve fitted.
Check it with water mixed with washing up liquid first, The valve core might just need nipping up.

You could try another valve core first. Far less messing around there.

Cheers lads, think ive got it sorted now though.

Basically I went to a local tyre place and they sprayed some stuff round the tyre and found the rim was leaking. So ive had a leaking valve and rim.

So called the original tyre fitter up who have said they will fix it for free as its not sealing properly.

Where do you live though Paddy? I'm in Faversham if you want to go for a ride sometime Bounce!
