Just curious on this point
its aimed at Tokers but I'd be interested to hear if any Non Tokers would grow

we were discussing it and almost everyone that was there said yes
even one guy who likes gardening but doesn't smoke said he'd grow it to sell on
two others who grow say they don't care that its illegal they'd rather risk growing
than having to rely on dealers or crappy weed, so I have added that option

out of about 30 people at the party (about 20 of them Toke) 16 said yes
couple said they couldn't be assed and would by from a friend instead

Don't most people sell it to make money? In which case, if its not illegal you won't make as much, so won't be worth doing?

Exactly what I was thinking... If it was made legal it'd be more widely available, and no doubt cheaper, therefore making it less financially viable to grow and sell your own??

Not really - you're allowed to grow your own tomatoes, doesnt mean everyone grows them to sell them.

I wouldnt but mainly because I dont grow anything and am pretty lazy Thumbs Up

the point on tomatoes is good, also beer, you can brew your own stronger and cheaper
but you still go to the off license / pub

what it would do is put a lot of dealers out of work and put a lot of "Commercial" grows that produce
crappy wet weed out of business as more people would grow there own
and if you don't have the time / space / ability to grow your own have more chance of getting it from a mate
rather than rely on a dealer you wouldn't talk to if you didn't have to
or go to places to buy that you'd rather avoid visiting

and a lot of people would do small grows with enough for them self and a bit left over to cover costs
and maybe make a few quid pocket money on the side

Yeah, defo, I like growing stuff, have done one grow several years ago, but would love to grow outdoors. A friend of mine does grow outdoors, in a residential street. He is clearly a top bloke.

I only smoke 4 times a year or so now, but would still grow it.

Don't care if its illegal I'd still grow it so yes, seems to be popular at 25%
that is interesting, it backs up my theory that the UK public can make there own mind up on this issue
and Ignore the government line making us criminals in there eyes

its funny as I'm involved in the canna industry I've recently been approached by the BBC
twice in regards to making Canna based documentary's as there seems to be a growing shift
towards a change in the law regarding cannabis, the BBC wanted to talk to every day people that smoke / grow
but finding people prepared to talk openly was tricky so they came to me through the website I work on
to ask if we could find people to talk to them, again most of the reply's to there request was negative as people were worried about there security
but if it wasn't an issue they'd happily talk to them but untill then no thanks

there may be a big shift about to happen that could make a big difference to the legality of it
there are political moves in the US to change the status of cannabis
mostly by the pro medical states to have the law changed, some places you can already grow
100 plants legally under a medical license and its openly sold in "medical Dispensaries" which are nothing more than
"Coffee Shops" that you can get a doctors card to join for $100

the reason Cannabis is illegal in the Uk is due to the US backed UN Treaty on drugs
which covers cannabis as well as most other drugs, so if the US reverses it decision on cannabis
it means the UN treaty will have to be scrapped allowing cannabis to be legal
unlike holland or spain where its decriminalised and tolerated
and why the discussion came up in the first place at the party

It's pretty decriminalised to grow it very small scale e.g 1 plant. Provided you have no prior history of dealing or being caught with large amounts they will just confiscate it and if you're really unlucky fine you.

I remember hearing about some old guy who grew shit loads of it. He had loads of seeds of all the different types are labelled up, loads of strains growing under different conditions etc. The police came round, it went to court and he got off with it as there was no evidence of intent to supply. His labelling of everything and recording details of grows etc convinced the judge he was an enthusiastic gardener who was growing it for a hobby rather than for drugs & money.

A guy i knew got pulled by the police with a bar in his boot. Obviously they smelled it and he got taken down the station. Though he was dealing he had been careful to have no cash or scales in his room or car (he put them round a mates before going to pick up). When questioned he gave no hint that he was intending to sell / give / share or in any way supply anybody so he was done for possession only, which is a far less serious matter. He got fined £200 and the weed confiscated. No community service, rehab or anything!

So the bottom line is, be careful not to look like you intend to supply and in the grand scheme of things, it's not that far off legal.

When I get my own house, I think I might start to grow it. Dont know what the girlfriend will say, but I'm sure I could talk her round to it. I quite fancy growing stuff (fruit and veg) in the summer but lack of garden space, etc resticts me, so I would hope to have at least 1 plant growing - I am not a smoker either, but think that if I did grow it, I would try some of my own supply; its only right after all.

Hi

Votes "no, don't do drugs".

Have no desire to alter my mood or thinking, either with alcohol or anything else. Have no desperate objection to it either so might indulge if offered a cake, but not enough to bother seeking it out.

All the best

Keith

even 5 - 20 plants is considered personal if you have no history
there have been cases up to 50 or more not getting jailed
but a small plant count means nothing in the context of the law
you can have 4 plants at over 2lbs each
and yes its easily possible to do that or have 100 plant with an oz each

so plant count is irrelevant

I said no but would buy from mate, I rarely smoke any these days but even when I did I would have said the same, seems like far too much effort/cost for me to have bothered doing myself, I do have mates that grow and it's obvious how enthusiastic they are about it so id be more than happy to line their pockets and see what hybrids were on offer any given week.

I can see the general appeal of growing your own though, if Coke was legal I'd extract my own , and if LSD/MDMA/etc were legal I'd love to have a go at synthesis providing I could get the labware cheaply enough.

think you hit it on the head
If I couldn't grow, Id rather buy from a mate that enjoyed it as a hobby rather than a source of income
more care over the plant and better grown quality over quantity

If it was legal and cost the same as tomatoes to buy, definitely not Wink.
Rarely smoke now-a-days anyway (twice this year in total), so probably wouldn't anyway.

I don't smoke it, but if it was legal I would probably have a go at growing it.

Interesting 58% say they would grow (or already do)
that's a higher figure than I expected

30% saying no they don't smoke was about the same percentage as the people at the party

I actually know a few cops personally, one did smoke before joining and has no problem with it
the other doesn't but has no issue with it when the "Hats off as he says"
he played in a band I worked with and everyone else in the band smoked

I'm not interested in selling it to mates.
But I'd certainly grow my own for a bit of personal - if it was legal.
Or mebbe I'd grow it anyway Wink
