bicycle speedo

I'm looking for a bicycle computer/speedo thing to use on a TTR250 as a cheap fix for a broken speedo - I have a wired Halfords one but it doesn't seem suitable as the spokes are too wide for the magnet to attach to (the threads on the magnet don't even meet) and also I can't get the sensor and magnet close enough (they need to be <5mm apart).
Anyone have any experience of this and can recommend a suitable model that works i.e. is specifially for motorbikes and bicycles? I understand wireless one can get interference from the ignition too.

The magnet doesn't have to go on a spoke, you could get away with gluing it somewhere on the front disc, as long as you put it somewhere it won't foul the caliper.

yeah, i thought about glueing it as it wouldn't be in the way - still struggling to get it close enough tho, 5mm isn't a big gap.

I've had to play about a bit doing them.
Generally attach it (cable tie or glue) to the front disc - it's rare this is that far away from the fork leg. If need be, you can add some padding underneath the sensor to move it closer to the fork leg.

In case you are thinking you need a working speedo for MOT, you don't. As long as you slow down a bit for speed cameras, you should be able to guess your speed ok really.

think i may have simply struck unlucky with the one i bought as cable is too short to reach the disc - it reaches the bottom of the brake cable but that means the spokes are miles away - will try to pad the sensor out further towards spokes later - that may help but will need to glue magnet to spoke.

bike came through MOT without speedo the other day but theres so many villages and a police strewn town on our route so its for peace of mind really.

I at some point just cut the wire and stuck some random wire in to lengthen one - in my case it was to get it on the rear, as it was easier to do it at the back on whatever bike it was.
