I remember seeing this on N30's bike and thinking WTF! So what's the deal with them? They cost about £15, do they just save weight or is there any other advantages?

They have all the performance increase and weight saving of an HRC sticker.

Plastic tubing should be more robust in a crash than a plastic reservoir. And they hold less fluid so less spillage, when they do get battered.

That's my thinking of them

I imagine they save as much weight as a good long fart. Bike equivalent of stick on bonnet vents.

I assume you're talking about the one for the front brake, that is totally pointless.
The back brake one like the one advertised in the links at the bottom:

https://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com/pict/1206184722916464_1.jpg

Is just a bit of clear tube as it saves space more than weight. The rear brake needs less fluid as the pads will wear down less during a race. Tube on the front is something i'd never use of a road bike as it feeds 2 callipers and would need topping up too regularly as the pads wear down.

IF I had scales I'd go weigh my stock 4 inch black tube, with the reservoir on the end. I'd then go and weigh my 2 inch tube. It may on;y be a few grammes, but it's still a difference especially with somebody like me. BUT obviously it adds to the bling factor too, much better than an ugly square/pot reservoir.

Wont they work well in a stunt riders application? They tilt the res' to stop air lock etc so wouldnt that tube full to brim be alot better for them?

You need at least 1 inch of air in the tube to allow for when the fluid gets hot. If not, you'll do what I did and it will lock your brakes on when the fluid reaches the bung Laughing

But I have them short as it's a personal preference, I'm sure they give you about 6 inch of tube to use. Some have them 2 inch, some have them a foot long, personal preference TBH.

I can't use the front one because I have the square style brembo masters which are part of the lever thing, might get the rear...

Eat some Weetabix for breakfast and you've undone all your weight saving work.

I've got one on mine too. Think they look quite good personally. They are very good for keeping an eye on your fluid level.

https://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs068.ash2/36739_10150219231515497_784455496_13605972_7583560_n.jpg

I wouldn't use one on the front though as I've heard they are not always safe. I have a smaller "rear" reservior on my front end instead. Thumbs Up

'Weight saving' is just a pathetic excuse to cover your bike in overpriced tat. Why the fuck do you need to save anymore weight on something which probably has about 1bhp per kg??? Its already designed for performance so saving even around 5kg is going to make absolute jack shit difference for a road bike. Would probably make pretty much jack shit difference for a drag bike! Id liken it to buying a porsche gt3 and replacing the drivers seat with a pink childs plastic chair self tappered to the floorpan. Weight saving, pfft Laughing

Alot of hate for people who like to mod their bikes Rolling Eyes

If nobody modified their bikes because they all thought it would be pointless then it would be a bit boring wouldn't it?
