Well i'm posting from a hospital waiting room, as a family member is in intensive care. Now i was supposed to be in work tonight at 8 anf after numerous phone calls from 1850 i have not been able to get through despite phone calls every 15 mins.

Now i don't need the stress from worrying about work when a family memembers ill.

Now do i leave it till the morning? This is the same job, who moaned when i had kidney stones and was rushed into hospital.

Also said family member is terminally ill.

Just forget about work. Show them call logs for your attempted calls (presumably from a mobile) when you next go to work. Could you not leave an answer phone message?

I had an incident once where I couldnt go to work for an 8am start.
i called from 8pm onwards untill 10pm at night (when the manager goes of shift)
there was no answer phone, so i called again at 7am.
still no answer.
When I turned up to work the following day, I did get a bollockin but i showed them the call list, that i was infact trying to call them.
Everything was ok then... Keep the call list, and keep trying Thumbs Up

Whats more important? Work or family?

Yep thats what I thought too.

Family..... You can always get another job if worst comes to worst. You cant fix regrets left at a hospital if worst comes to worst.

I'd have just texted a colleague after attempt #1. Preferably one trustworthy enough to pass on a message.

Agreed.......

Couple of times in the past my sons school has rung up my work saying he is sick and needs to go home.
The looks I got as I left said it all.
Work is work, family are family - family come first, no matter what - work can go screw - plenty of other jobs.
