Mutiple split link usage YAY or NAY

Tried to put my off road wheels on the drz but unfortunately the chains about 4-5 links to short and the off road chain didnt come with it and its a 90 mile treck to go get it.

So if i were to make up a extention piece of chain and use split links (wired to secure) to sue when ive got the off roaders on it will i run into any problems ?

You could join a short length of another new chain using two split links, it would be just as safe as using a chain with one split link. The problem is what chain you will borrow a few links from, it would need to be the same as the chain you want to fit and preferably had the same amount of use (i.e. none).

If you meant fit multiple split links in a line to elongate the chain then it wouldn't work because chains are made of two types of links, the master link (i.e your split link) is a version of just one of them.

I have done in the past and it's been fine.

The chain on my CRM at one point was made from three other chains - though that was rivet links.

I won't touch a split link with the smelly end of a shitty stick these days.

That said. A mate of mine used to use two split links on his Nitrous injected TL1000R drag bike. He had the worlds longest wheel adjusters on his stretched swingarm. He'd ride to the track, split the chain, wind the wheel back another 6 inches then add an extra bit of chain using two split links.

I've never had a problem with split links and had to use two to use up spare chain but I would avoid the cheaper "no-name" ones and stick to good quality. Make sure they are fitted correctly too.
