A friend with a back injury has just been prescribed Tramadol and after taking half the dose his Dr told him to take spent last night hallucinating his tits off. The pain has eased a little but he is still well spaced out and will not be able to function in the workplace in his present state. Will the trippy side effects wear off and will he get an addiction?
I know many of you have been on painkillers after bad offs, your advice on Tramadol and any other input wold be appreciated.
Thanks Wali

Stay away. Tramadol is bad! I was pretty much loopy after a week on it. Not as addictive as codeine, but almost there.

I decided i'd rather have the pain than the fucked up head that tramadol gave me.

I vaguely remember being spaced out for the best part of a week, then decided to halve the dosage and tolerate some extra pain, cos i was useful to no-one on that stuff

It's a balance of degree of pain vs side effects.

It'll do nothing for his back other than stop it hurting, wont make it fixed quicker.

Generally with opiates, the more pain, the less side effects for a given dose. Maybe try taking less or consider using them only if the pain gets excessive or to assist with sleeping.

Again, as with many opiates, the more pain, the less likely to become a habit (although dependancy if they are the only thing that stops the pain is another matter entirely).

Wotcha.

I'm on Tramadol, and to be honest it doesn't seem to do anything. I can't feel any significant increase in pain if I don't take it. . . . . bloody typical . . . . what works for most folks doesn't work for me.

Are you on the 50mg tablets or the 250mg tablets? I found 3 50mg's almost knocked me out!

You could try asking for an increase in dosage on them, anyone gets given 50mg ones to start with. I do know people where a pair of 250mg tablets doesn't do anything to them though Shocked

[edit]

I think you can get them as 100mg aswell.

Have you tried 30/500 (30 codeine 500 paracetemol) co-codamol tablets? They seemed to do a better job of pain killing for me. Addictive as hell though.

LIES! Tramadol has been my best friend since my big crash, i will never have anything again! It cures all my pain and makes me "comfortably numb"!
Best thing ever!

EDIT: Yea its addictive at first, but when u go cold turkey you can have them anytime with no after affects, I take mine when i cant sleep and pain in my leg is unbareable.

Comfortably numb is the phrase I always used to use when I was completely dead from tramadol/codeine. The numbness where all your limbs feel heavy.

I take 100mg Tramadol as and when needed. If I'm on it for a few days, the trippiness wears off and it does a pretty decent job as a pain killer.
The 100mg ones I have are slow release, so I don't get quite so fucked as I do if I take 2x50mg ones.

They are one of the best pain killers I've used, but initially they do make you feel proper stoned Thumbs Up

since breaking my neck i've found i get all sorts of pains in my neck / back - Tremadol never really seemed to do anything for me (maybe i was on the small dose?) but i find Diclofenic (sp?) works a treat for killing pain with no side effects! Thumbs Up

I was given Tramadol (50g) at the weekend after getting some severe stomach pains and found that I only really had a reaction after I was double dosing every 4 hours on them and was taking co-codamol/Ibruprofen (doc said I could) at the same time. Just felt a bit woozy and unsteady on my feet, nothing more.

I was addicted to tramadol 70mg for 3 years! 8 a day. Was for nerve pain but I never hallucinated on them ended up just taking them to stop the withdraws which where nasty. Bad times back then.

Taking Tramadol meant I could take a mid-morning nap, something I can never do normally unless very tired. Didn't get any other serious side-effects, but tend to be fairly resistant to drugs (wasn't too impressed/affected by morphine to be honest, though the Ketamine was quite nice I got after Smile ).
Anyway, I also got addicted without realising (had no idea until I cut down from one pill to none and couldn't sleep, shivers, itchy feeling etc) so another vote for caution.

If i haven't had it for a good while then i have 2 i'm fubar, unless i sleep it off i throw up and such. If i just take 1 to start with then another 1 after 4 hours then 2 after that consecutive 4 hours am fine but i sleep it off then wake up the next day am ok having 2. I had 4 once... i tripped out watching loose women and playing diablo 2 LOD hahaha! Laughing

Wouldn't be suprised if they just give him more and more Tramadol, my doctor just kept loading me up with more when I asked for something different.
