what oil? ns125r-k

Tried looking about,

So far, my problem is thus.

Old clutch plates fine. Rebuilt engine broke pressure clutch plate, bought second hand clutch off ebay inc with plates. So i used the ebay plates for rebuild not my old ones.

Clutch slipping like mad.

Now I've tried;

rock oil fully synth. Slips like no tomorrow! 80-90w
and castrol 80w part synth. also slips, not as bad as the above mind!

I can't remember what oil I used before! Does it sound more like a clutch plate problem, or oil problem? Am I using the wrong oil, my manual doesn't state anything, just how to change it.

Ive never used anything fancy as gearbox oil.

Have used 10w40, 20w50 engine oils and a 80/90w gearbox oil.

20w50 is the one ive stuck with. So happens to be £1.99 a litre at Morrisons!

Id bung the old plates back in, clean the clutch up with a rag and stick fresh oil in it again.

Wrong oil, you should just use standard bike 10w40

Ah, I found the an old bottle of 10-40w halfords stuff! That was the stuff that worked well last time ,cheers!!


It's weird how even a honda motorbike store said 80w stuff would work fine. Yet it quite obviously doesn't.

Will buy some 10-40w tomorrow

Not guaranteeing it will sort it, could be worn springs or anything. 10w40 is the correct oil to use though so could be a contributing factor.

changed clutch plates to my spare ones, also changed springs, and the oil to 10-40w gearbox oil from halfords.

Works perfect. Clutch is gripping proper now!

Probably the new springs that sorted it. Measure the old ones to see if they're in spec still and it will give you some idea.

I think it was the oil and the springs personally, the plates looked in perfect nick. Changed the lot to be safe to the previous ones that i knew worked. and it paid off.


I do indeed have pictures. I need to get some recent ones actually, but for now.


Since this pic, ive repaired the plastics, new graphics kit, new mirrors, resprayed exhaust, resprayed the tank.

Ooh lovely! I really want that rear part, so i can carry a pillion! My rear seat plastic cone needs to be cut down once i pass my test!
