Hi guys i recently picked up a cub 90 which i use for my 3 mile comute to work.

i have become obsessed now with fitting a bigger engine.
i have around 200 quid to play with.
any ideas on which engine would suit my need of commuting daily but also giving me many smiles.
i was thinking around a 125 or 140cc.
will this just blow up after 2 months of commuting?

any input greatly recieved
also will my lights etc still work??will i need to change alll the wireing?
steve

In my opinion, if its only for a 3 mile commute, I really wouldnt chop it up and stick a Lifan engine in there, the cubs brakes are JUST about good enough for the speeds the 90cc package will do, but also just sticking a bigger lump in is the easy option Twisted Evil
If I were you, for more fun and also so you dont have to chop the frame of the cub up (a lot of work would be necessary to add engine mounts and strengthen it to take the lifan, and then get the chain line right) what I would do is get an old cub 90 engine cheap of the bay and tune the bejesus out of it Twisted Evil

i mean go nuts, maybe bore it out, port it, bigger carb, performance exhaust and just have some fun with a cub engine (keep the original engine stock though, just for originality sakes so when the tuned engine goes pop the bikes not a gonner)
I reckon you could get pretty close to the Lifans performance, and still have a more original, much tidier looking and more fun bike, ive always thought a lower capacity, but more highly tuned engine is WAY more fun than a bigger, lesser tuned engine (although less reliable i guess)

I thought I told you; they suck. Razz
(Have ridden mine pretty much daily for the last week or so.)

Ok, when you get used to them, they are ok in 30s and just about ok in 40s, providing there's no steep hills.
Anything faster than that and it's quite annoying.

For the OP; do consider why you have a c90. For most it's because they are cheap to run and reliable. Suspect they will be less so if you stick a pitbike engine in. Good for 'luls', but you could probably sell yours and get a 'proper' 125 that did it all better Smile.

Incidentally, definitely need a carb at least with the engine. Probably best to find a pit bike in one piece and nab the stuff from that, but of course need to make sure it's an 'ok' make.

hi guys

cheers for replys

as for getting a 125 its not the same, the little cub is awsome,

as for living with one they are great bikes that are perfect at what they are meant to do,tootle about!!as G said 30s and 40s ok anything more they struggle!!mine will run at 45 to 50 on the clocks who knows what that is in true speed!!
i have my tt600 for kicks this is a cheap comutor(only paid £200) passed it mot no prob!

ive got 200 quid burning a hole in my pocket and have seen the engine(as per link above) and wondering will it plonk straight in or will i have to dick about with wiring, exhaust etc etc?

the full engine kits come with carbs and all sorts?

cheers guys

Get a different bike, as you say, its a commute tool not for "kicks", so why poor huge amounts of time and money into it to mod the engine or tune it? Get a 125 moped or 125 geared bike and your problems will be solved!
