Are you not insured under your own policy to ride other people's bike with their permission?
I know I am under my policy.

Most of us older youngsters have 'any bike' cover - damn useful for those 'can I just have a go' moments.
But what I really want is 'any vehicle'. I can't be driving my car and riding my bike at the same time so why should I be paying to insure them both 365 days a year. |

I've had insurance policies before where the bike is not owned by me and they were aware that I was borrowing the bike of someone for a bit whilst my bike is being fixed, wasn't asked if they were also insured at all.
Can't see it being a problem with TPO cover, if you're wanting to get anything which includes theft cover they might start getting a bit unsure as if the bike was stolen you could both try to claim for it . |

Usually you need full comp and a fair fe2w year NCB. My dad (alledgedly) has it. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
From September 2014 to January/February 2015 I will not be using any English, nor reading any. As such, I won't be on here. PM at will, but I won't be checking/posting unless in emergencies. Certainly not for the first couple of months. Please berate me savagely if I break that rule... |

Know lots of people on here who have TPFT and are covered TPO on other peoples bike with the owners permission so fully comp. is not needed for this.
Most places aren't interested in doing it until you're off your 33bhp thing and over 21, but some do as Yams have now found out. They'll prefer it if you have a few NCB but as with everything they'll just charge you more if you have less NCB. |

The problem arises from the fact that Insurance companies don't like doing TPFT on vehicles.
Whilst it is the minimum legal requirement, it's amazing the number of companies who refuse to do it. Fully Comp or nothing.
Now this causes problems, in that if they gave you Fully Comp insurance in this case, they are insuring you for somebody elses vehicle.
To give an example, I could take out an insurance policy on any vehicle on the road (or on rails, or even in the sky). I could claim for any accident it has, even though it's not my vehicle. Bit like betting on an air crash really.
Find a company that will insure you, not the vehicle. Any accident damage that you cause will be your problem, not the owners, but at least you will be legal.
And make sure if the worst happens, you make sure your mates bike is sorted. Cos who'll lend you a bike if you don't?
Cheers,
Byrnie. |
