I'm 21, Just turned, and the reason I know fuck all about mechanics is because I've always been to scared to try it. I've never had a garage as I live in a flat, and so all my jobs had to be done in a day because of the fact that I cant leave bits lying around outside and because I ride every day, so I need my machine up and running again. The second reason was that as soon as any of the old farts saw me with a spanner, they'd call the estate wardens on me and I'd get lectured about leaving stains on the road, oil, blahdyblahdy blah.
Now, It is something I'd love to learn how to do, but I worry about getting on a machine that i've played with, a lot of my mates have garages and dads who know what they're doing, but i lack this particular luxury!
So the VFR800 seems quite nice. I had a look at one at the local dealers, and they guy had one and he said exactly the same things, not massively fast, but quick enough to have fun on and as comfortable as anything! My lack of maintenance skill has meant that I'm leaning more towards the sport-tourer seeing as they arent as highly tuned and may be a bit more forgiving.
Don't get me wrong, I do ride hard, and I like to push my limits and gain better control of a vehicle. I'm just a bit careful s'all. |

Not quite accurate, if you read the entire thread you will find this info:
| Quote: | As for repairs.... not really that much. 2 CCT's (common F4i thing) and 2nd time replaced it with an APE manual at 100k, never a prob since. 2 R/R's (100k and 156k), a few batteries, a few brake rotors, a broken clutch cable (65k), 2 cooling fan blades (160k and 191k), and a fork seal at 175k. Oh yea a front wheel bearing around 160k or so, and steering head bearings 145k or so. Only one major repair, and that was a trans problem at 114k, jumping out of 3rd gear. Had to replace 3rd and 6th gears and the shift fork, and replaced 2nd for safe measure even though I was having no probs with it, I know it takes alot of abuse |

O.K. so we divide the cost of the above repairs by 200,000 and what figure do we get? = Not bad by my reckoning

Most of that stuff is just general ware and tare though!
Brake rotars, wheel bearings, head bearings, clutch cable, batteries, and fork seals, there all pretty much ware and tare. Not bad for 200k! ____________________ 2009 CBR1000RR
