You'd do well to work your way through this site, a bit american orientated but very good as a starter.
https://www.dansmc.com/mc_repaircourse.htm
All of the questions you asked are answered on that site, take a few hours to have a read and you WILL understand a hell of a lot more about bikes .
After that it is getting down and dirty with a bike, reading the Haynes manuals etc, browsing the workshop section of this forum etc etc to build your knowledge and experience.
Have fun. |

Had a look at that link for the sake of it, got this far:
| Quote: | Remember what the Bible tells us... " And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;" (Colossians 3:23) In other words always do your very best. In reality, you are really working for God, and not man. |
Refuse to read any more.
OP, forks usually refer to the front suspension. ____________________ I am a bellend, I am a man of constant sorrow, I am a gummy bear, I am a rock. |

The others have given some links, but I am intrigued as to 'why' you need to know all this ... is it general interest or for some other purpose (making something, writing a paper on something)?

From his profile:-
| Danny Shep wrote: | Hey im dan, im an easy going guy, am 15 and looking to soon be buying a 125 next year sometime, im not that experienced in my knowledge about bikes etc but im hoping to learn some new things from here so lots of help would be appreciated! |
Well, the first thing you need to investigate is the licenec laws.
at 16 you can apply for a provisional licence, but until you are 17 the only thing you can legally ride on it is a moped, and that only after your provisional entitlement has been validated by CBT. After your 17th birthday, again with validation from a CBT certificate, you can, on L-Plates ride a 125. You have to pass a test within 2years of CBT or you loose your validation & have to retake CBT. Pass the test, on a 125 you get a 'restricted' licence, and are limited to a 33bhp bike for two years. Theres more to it, but the starting point is that you cant ride a 125 on the road until you are over 17, which puts you a way off yet.
Motorbikes come in all shapes and sizes, layouts configurations & styles, and theres a lot more to it than just two stroke engines and four stroke engines.
BEST place to start is your local library!
Trouble with Wikopedia or google is they are ONLY any good if you have SOME idea what you are looking for..... old fasioned books TEND to have a bit more of a purpose behind them, and I was just looking for one I thought was quite good, I'm sure called 'The Ultimate Book of the Motorcycle', which not only gave you pictures & descriptions of lots of different bikes, but has sections describing the different kinds of bike, from customs & choppers, through road-bikes & commuters, to sportsbikes, dirt-bikes, competition road-racers, scramblers, evebn speed-way bikes and stuff..... THEN how they work, and the differences in engines and suspension and 'stuff' like that.
Plenty of books like that been written over the years... a lot of them by a chap called Roland Brown!
Take a trip to your library, have a hunt through the reference section, read, absorb, and go from there. ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Punch the following into Google:
Motorcycling
Read everything that is returned and come back to us.
You will be old enough to ride a 125 by then and you will know as much as any Old Sage and Onion stuffing on here. ____________________ W-ireless A-rtificial L-ifeform L-imited to O-bservation P-eacekeeping and E-fficient R-epair |

Know the difference between a 2 stroke and 4 stroke, but can't count the amount of blobs you have
I'll give you a clue, it's inbetween 2 and 4.

I use humour to get my karma count, but it can be dangerous as some have had a humour bypass when they were a child. But it is a risk that i am prepared to take
I know the difference betweeen a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke. The answer is 2 ____________________ Suzuki GSF600 K3 (in the fastest colour, black). |
