On the way to work this morning was stopped at the lights when a guy pulls up beside on a GSF 600, gives me a friendly nod then smokes me when the lights change, any way further down the road I see him in front of me waving me to slow down and pointing at the road, Diesel trail which went on for ages. Anyway I followed his line to keep out of the stuff which was real helpful, once we were passed it where the offender had turned off he looked back and gave me a thumbs up before entering warp speed again...loll

What a nice thing to do, bikers looking out for each other is brilliant, if your that guy from the back of Abbey Lane up to just passed Bow thank you. Thumbs Up

We need to look out for each other as most vehicles don't even see us at one time or another Thumbs Up

Still a good thing for the bandit rider to do Karma

Had a good tale a while back. Bandit dispatch rider stacked it on Northwick Park Roundabout in NW London but because it was walled on all sides (the metropolitan line passes underneath it), it's a blind entry and nobody would have seen him. Irrespective of that... those that DID see him just went around him (3 lanes). I basically saw something wasn't right and cruised up to the corner of the roundabout. Parked my bike up and picked up this guy's bandit and picked the rider up who was clearly in shock. For a courier to go down on what was seemingly a perfectly good road was rather strange to me... later found out that in the inside lane, there was a nice line of diesel that was trailling its way to the offside lane for the next exit. If he was going around the roundabout, he never had a chance if he was cranked over. Luckily all he had was dented pride and nothing else.... shameful on those that didn't stop. I even had a few pricks who honked at me as I put the bike on the stand.

Anyway long story short, when it comes to diesel, everybody becomes a cropper so it's best to look out for everybody, irrespective if you have any prejudices amongst typical stereotypes (harley riders, L platers, cocky supersport riders). We'd all appreciate the help. The last thing you want to happen is to be in a situation like the guy I mentioned... no help from passing car drivers! But that's london for you - "you fell down in front of me, it aint my problem!"

You will be better of trying Scotland.
There are hardly any friendly bikers South of the border.

But even tourists from the continent catch the wave when they tour Eccosse.

We Jocks are a nation of no bad cunts really

We are a friendly bunch Thumbs Up I have stopped when I see a bike at the side of the road, usually it is the rider or pillion having a smoke or piss break Laughing

But I still stop to see if they need assistance, and others have done the same for me. usually I am either having a smoke or piss break also Laughing

This is really good to read.

Oddly enough I've been riding for nearly a year and i don't think I've noticed diesel once..
Unless its that oily coloured fluid i see sometimes? Looks multicoloured?

I didn't know what that stuff was but i thought it looked bad and avoided it...

Sorry for sounding like an idiot.. But I'd like to warn fellow bikers if i come across it too.

Oh,

FYI since you're getting into the game.

Here are the sins which the roads may hide AS WELL as diesel.

1) MANHOLE COVERS when wet (for obvious reasons). You don't always notice them when it's totally dark and wet
2) Overbanding in country roads. They offer a LOT less grip and the utility companies in their infinite wisdom see fit to plonk them right in the middle of the carraigeway! Not good when you're negotiating a corner where you want to cut in or open it up on the power only to have the rear feel momentarily detached.
3) Potholes.

So yeah, keep your wits about you. You'll notice these things with experience.

This.

Be careful leaving petrol stations too. Normally after a petrol stations you will find a roundabout. Big trucks fill up and the excess gets dumped and its normally around there where you find it. Our local Tescrap has had problems with this and take it from someone thats been there its bloody scary when the back end just loses traction and then the front end follows. Luckily at the time I was on the 125 and never came off but I think if I had done it on the bigger heavier bike I would have been on the deck.

Thanks for the advice.
In my first few weeks riding i had a scare involving a wet manhole cover and a sharp left hand turn. They always seem to plonk em right where i take the corner. My rear tyre lost traction and i thought i was gonna kiss road.

There is a habit of having manhole covers either on the corner or just on the exit where the natural line of the bike tends to be. Best advice for that is the old "Look where you want to go not where you are going"

If you keep your eyes on the road around the corner then you will see the cover in plenty of time to re act.

when the bike is upright and straight then manhole covers are just another peice of road and can be ridden on with no upsets. Its only when the bike is cornering that they start becoming a problem.

This time of year also look out for fallen leaves. They tend to turn to a slimy mush on the road and can get slippery

I did my good deed for the day for sunday helping a pair of bikers on the M6 - I was stood on the motorway bridge with a CB radio ( Embarassed ) and saw them pushing a bike down the hard shoulder - jumped down onto the grass bank and walked down to them, found they'd run out of petrol, nipped home, got a jerry can full and took it to them.

Karma better pay me back, I stung my leg on a nettle on the way down the banking Laughing

good lad truslack! Thumbs Up Karma

thats what we like to hear. i always give the Thumbs Up / Thumbs Down to road side bikers and ofcourse, you must nod! nods are brilliant Mr. Green

i find commuter/through the week bikers dont nod nearly as often as weekend bikers, i ride all week and always give the nod. aparently the older bikers do a leg wiggle instead of a nod sometimes only come accross this once.
