Bandit Pillion hangar Allen Bolts

hi,

i need a replacement allen key bolt 5mm (i think) as ive rounded off one.
Anyone know where you can get them from and what they are called?

They get called all sorts of things, from Allen Bolts to Socket Cap Screws, but the most important thing to consider is that the size in mm etched on the appropriate key is not the size of the bolt/thread. From memory, a 5mm Allen Key fits a 6mm thread (M6) Cap Screw.

Wemoto hold a huge range of all sorts of fasteners available as single items. Alternatively, any amount of local engineers suppliers shops, Screwfix, steel stockholders. Just make sure you specify zinc plated or stainless steel.

The 1200 Bandit uses standard M8x1.25 bolts 25mm long. Wouldn't have thought the 600 used smaller as M6 is a bit lightweight for footrest hangers.

Unless you're going to be carrying an idiot that regularly stands up then I wouldn't worry about strong bolts.

5mm bolt, load bearing, do those two things go together in one sentence?

Have a scout around B&Q or the like and you'll find scads of the right kind of thing. No real difference between car/bike bolts and household ones, just places like Halfords will charge through the nose for a packet with one or two in, or a multi-set not even guaranteed to have what you want.

Just make sure it's flat head not countersunk (unless you somehow have a CS original) and the thread pitch matches up.

Pretty sure the B6 pillion hangers are part of the frame, no bolts.

The B12 uses M8 socket cap bolts. Off memory they were 7mm Allen key fitment, But not 100% on that.


Best bet is to take one out, and take it to your local fasteners. There is a small place in Gravesend I uses alot because I come out of there with a bag of 30 to 40 specialist bolts for about a fiver.

For the sake of a few quid you may as well change all 4 bolts for stainless.
I had stainless in mine and did stand up wheelies on the rear pegs, They will be plenty strong enough.

Silly question why do you want to replace it? The hangers are on and but the looks of it not coming off, if you wanted to take them off you won't need the bolt.

Any reason you can't just leave it?

...and if you've got a chewed up bolt best to change it to a good 'un sooner rather than later so you don't suffer the consequences of having a rusted/seized bolt trying to use a knackered hex to undo it further down the line.

its cos the pillion peg is bent on that side and ive a new complete hanger and peg i want to screw on.
All this fuss over a bolt!
