Hornet Clocks, 2001 (CB600f, naked)

Anyone have any ideas as to where i could track some 2nd hand clocks down for my 2001 600 hornet, or if i should maybe go a different route, and go for digital ones instead?

Been trawling the net (ebay, private sites, hornet nest) etc., ringing up breakers (partfinderuk) for weeks with no luck.

i dont mind paying up to £200 for the original honda ones, 2nd hand of course.
however the digital ones may be cheaper and maybe better-more techy stuff/options etc. ?
...opinions very much welcomed!

Anyone else had crashes on a hornet and had to replace clocks before?


I may 'have' to go for digital clocks instead as i need some within a month or so now.

But would they be compatible with my 2001 model etc.?


Any help/advice/links massively appreciated!

I noticed the other day that the early Hornets had the same looking clocks as the CB-1, which I have a spare set of. (The CB-1 clocks are probably even harder tio get hold of in good condition). Let me know if they're any use and I'll stick some pics up.

Ah, just had another look and it's the 250 hornet that has the same clocks, not the 600

The 02' model I bought had front end crash damage at some point and had Trail Tech Vapor clocks on them. They work fine on the bike.

There must be other models which have similar clocks as the Hornet comes across as a parts bike - the faired Hornet clocks are the same as Firestorm clocks (bought replacements for the '02 to return it to standard eventually).

When I crashed my Hornet a few years ago I put up with a cheap universal speedo and tacho until I could get original clocks. Never did find any second hand ones and ended up getting a new set from David Silver, was £300 I think, and I don't remember any other bikes sharing the same clocks.

I hae a set in kph, and a set of cb1 in good nick. The kph ones are in good nick and come with a converter. And if you want them in mph you can buy the backings from eBay for <£20.

Cheers guys, sorry havnt had a chance to get back on here till now.

@ Ulster, ye those clocks look nice and you say they should work, which is a bonus. saves me alot of time finding that extra stuff out. A mate told me to look into those too. vapor clocks at around £130 i think. I just wasnt sure if they were compatible yet.

@ Chris, thx too, the cheaper ones are more within my budget!

Is the bike easier to sell if it has standard honda hornet clocks re-fitted or if it has mods/upgraded clocks??

Maybe im going too deep into the rabbit hole with these questions but for now im keeping a keen eye on one standard set on ebay

@ Mark, what type of universal speedo did you get? and why did you switch back to the standard honda clocks?

@ thathornet, cheers man, will be in touch shortly. so it will have kph and mph with the backing installed? gosh i dont wanna get the wrong set, as thatll be a pricey mistake! ...lots of kph fake clocks on ebay ive noticed.

There is another option. If your actual speedo and rev guage haven't been damaged then you could always buy a complete case.

Swerved off the road on a bend near Ford, on the A420. Was on my way back to Bristol from London via the A4 if you know it.

So was quite tired by that stage, and can only really remember flashes of events that night.

I recall 'something' covering up the lines and cats eyes in the middle of the road, whilst already leaning into the bend, so was too late by then to avoid whilst staying on the road. Whether it was a car with the lights on high beam and me being blinded or an animal in the road, i just cant be sure. Just that my mind seems to have blacked those couple seconds out.

After emergency braking as much as i possibly could safely (without sliding), i veered off the road and hit the curb, then somersaulted over the handlebars! :O

Whats amazing and unbelievable is this. I mustve spectacularly flown through the air at least 10ft just to reach the fence, whereby only to be greeted by a 10-15ft drop, as the bend was coming down a hill (ie hill bend=nasty). This is not to mention the trees i missed, majority of em anyway.

Landed on my upper back/neck. Yes, ouch! Blacked out for a bit, came to, quickly scrambled up the hill (hard work), was in unbearable pain, but felt i had to get to the road to get help, as i couldnt see the bike and was pretty sure knowone saw me come off the road.
I'm lucky to be alive!

The bike aint too bad. Was a slighltly controlled crash. Handlebars bent, forks ok, brake fluid empty for some reason (investigating at present), its just f***ing unlucky the clocks got broken, so i got really stung there.
Police say it went off a diff direction to where they found my helmet and gloves at the bottom of the ditch where i landed. It was buried into a bush/tree still near the road above me.

I was only doing around 50mph leading up to the corner, as i recall events before and after the crash quite vividly, its just my memory being intermittent about things inbetween like what 'actually' caused it.

** What i do remember very clearly tho, is the NHS trying to discharge me with a broken neck! crazy eh?! and this was 'after' they had done x-rays etc in A and E. :O


Ultimately, it frustrates me, as i really wanna know what happened that night. As, without knowing what caused the crash, i havnt really learnt anything, which is what you should from crashes. LEarn where you/others went wrong etc...

That said, ive had a few accidents over the years, 80% caused by others mind, but never anything as serious as this.

I broke one of the vertebrae in my neck, cracked 2 below it, leaving the doctor utterly stunned how on earth i managed to get up after such a high fall of the accident. So, am now recovering. Im lucky as im told i should heal up within a few months.

**A word to EVERYONE out there. Invest in a real, decent SPINE/BACK PROTECTOR. As this is almost as important as buying a decent helmet!

....in this case i only had the sponge back protection in my Spyke race leathers.... which clearly 'didnt' do a good job. This however is my fault as i have been meaning to get one that fit the jacket, argh! so annoyed at myself.


Main focus now is healing up, fixing up and getting (back) up on the hornet here in Bath!

That sounds like it was a fun one!

You're lucky to come out of that one healable.

I'm not from around that area, I'm in the north west (between chester and liverpool).

Have you looked into the possibility of claiming? I've not had an accident (thank god), so I've no idea where you stand in this sort of situation.

You've never had a little spill of any sort? been riding long?


People not indicating is a big one. Look out for cars, (even bikes sometimes) starting to pull out ahead etc.
