Hi Nerds ... My first post in the geeky area , I think.

Anyway, my C drive (system) is reporting drive errors ... windows pops up the odd random message about the drive about to fail etc.
And I cant be bothered doing a stage by stage rebuild of all my system apps and settings such as internet etc.
So I thought "I will backup a system image , and then restore that to a new drive".

a) all of my old (free Wink ) backup apps like Acronis wont work with Windows 7.
b) I have tried the built in Win7 system backup and it fails at the end saying "bad clusters on source- backup stopped " Sad

Whats good for doing a full system backup and restore on Windows 7.. and is FREE. ?

Thanks in advance.

Get a new free Wink version of Acronis

Try Spinrite. It may repair the disc.

I wanted to go legit .... but listened to your advice and got a new 'free' version.
Its fantastic ... stuff has moved on a bit since I was doing imaging via floppy disks.
I just put a spare hd in, and cloned the C drive.
Bobs your uncle (or he was until he died of leukemia in 1981 .. rip peace uncle Bob) and my system is running lovely .. and all in 20 mins Smile Thumbs Up

Why not use the Microsoft Tool for imaging.

It's called imagex

You need to download the automated installation disk, then create a Windows PE disk.l

But this disk is very very flexible. We have about 1600 pcs at work and that's what we use.
