As per title, what do you ride to work? Will you use the same bike over winter?

How do you think my 2001 CBR600f will fare over winter, will it come out shiny, or a pile of rusty mush?

Thumbs Up

with the provision that I actually pass in a couple of weeks, I shal ride my fz6 fazer. I do intend to ride it over the winter.

According to the guys on here, the use of ACF-50 seems to be the thing to protect your bike for the winter.

This winter I will be mostly using my gsxr for the simple reason that I havent got anything else to ride around on when the weathers rubbish.

The DRZ of course... planning on getting some ACF50 though, is £13.69 delivered a good price for 369g can of the stuff? Won't be able to use it all winter, mind, once the ice builds up it's near impossible to get the car out of the back lane never mind a bike.

Faired Bandit 600.

Keeps most of the wind off and is good for 90mph cruising, meanwhile not hindering the city filtering as the mirrors fold in nicely. Almost at 60,000 miles now. Cool

lol mate seriously just use the Trumpet, thats a stunning new gixer, u will loose so much value through appearance alone if u drag that kicking and screaming through the winter ?! if u have a winter hack, use it!!?!

i ran a gixer 750 for a few yrs through all weathers and a couple of cold snowy winters, and as amusing as it can be, u just bleed money week by week. Its just not clever if u have an alternative, its like a ferrari owner leaving the m3 in the garage during the cold season just coz it looks cooler.... Thumbs Up

CB600. It's not in best nick so perfect for winter running and was bought specifically to commute on. Just need to fit the heated grips and fix the fairing to put back on and it will be a whole lot more comfortable.

I've been commuting 50 miles a day through two winters on my 2001 CBR600f. They take it really well Smile

Watch out for excessive corrosion on the downpipes where they all join together (the 4-2-1 bit underneath) as it takes the worst of the salt and stones. New downpipes will set you back ~£400.

*edit* mine still looks great (if I give it a good wash/wax/polish) despite having 34k on the clocks

The CBR should fare well. Make sure you use ACF 50 on stanchions to help to prevent the onset of pitting. If the stanchion and sliders have started to pit, keep an eye on it. ACF50 prevents the pits from becoming a site for galvanic corrosion to occur.

I used the Blade all winter and will continue to do so this winter as well.

Should have my full license soon and could upgrade, but I'll be keeping it through the winter I think. Weather's supposed to be just as shite this year as last years was.

The main areas of concern on the CBR will be the downpipes, front of engine & rear linkages. Just give them a good clean with plain old water once a week to remove any salt. Good old fashioned wax will do a decent job of protecting the body work / fork lowers / etc and will come off with a good warm wash.

i ave a battle hardened MuZ 500 that gets commuter duties,
the thing just won't die, ive crashed it, drowned it in a river, got it stuck on the beach, and it still looks as ugly as the day i got it, and runs even better, its still on the original factory chain, after 13 years and 50000km
couldnt ask for a better commuter weapon Thumbs Up

I filled it with fuel the other day, so that should last me to the summer. Middle Finger
