Morphine

Following my Tramadol thread ( thanks to all of you that helped on there), my friend came of Tramadol as it was a bad drug for him and the back pain is now debilitating, his Dr recommended Morphine. He initially refused as he is scared of the implications of M, It looks like he will need surgery to free him of pain and this could take three months or so.
I have advised him to go on M until he gets the surgery. From my research ( reading William S Burroughs etc) a M habit takes about 6 months but I would be most appreciative of your input and experiences.

Depends on your personality type and what you've got going on in your life. I know people who did heroin for a bit then stopped with no problems, but plenty of people are hooked from the start. I think the danger is that after surgery he still takes it for the pain, then either develops a false pain, or just plain lies to himself that he still needs it. Generally for avoiding addiction to things i find it best to do things as infrequently as possible and view all motives for increasing frequency with suspicion.

Guy I used to work with was given morphine for a back injury. Oramorph tables from memory.

After about 4 months he looked like hell. Skinny as a rake, so weak with his back bad he was in a wheelchair and covered in scabs on his arms from itching till he bled.

Slowly weaned himself off after his op, but it wasn't good.

keep a close eye on what he's taking

I was on it for about 8 months after my accident and its not easy to stop. I realised i didnt need it for the pain so tried to stop taking it but ended up feeling like crap.

So i slowly cut down the dose over a few weeks but found i was still addicted to it and ended up going cold turkey. For most of a week i felt like shit with hot and cold sweats, shivering, tired, feeling itchy and just feeling out of it, it wasnt fun but it worked.

If hes gonna take it be careful and try not to take it too long, but saying that if the pain is as bad as mine was you dont really care as long as you can get a bit of sleep or some rest from the pain.

From reading up with my Tramadol addiction it does seem there's some genetic factors too - the fact I was unknowingly addicted quite easily suggests I'm possibly susceptible to opiate addiction more than others.

Any morphine product is addictive and some people get hooked easier than others

Both my parents were put on it when terminally ill - they were no longer the same people.
It stopped the pain though. Rolling Eyes

The doc's advice is probably the best nonetheless.
Relentless pain is more debilitating than the drug side effects.
It is a very effective painkiller and the other things it does are well known.

I was disappointed in morphine. After I had my son I was on it in hospital, I asked what sort of crappy pain killers had me on as I needed stronger ones. After pains are very sore. They where injecting it in my leg to. Must have been dud stuff it didnt do anything anyone had told me morphine does not even cure the pain. Confused

I think if your not in severe pain maybe? dont know didnt work for me.
And gas and air where also shit just to note.
