Came across Leatt neck braces while looking at back protectors on the internet and thought they looked alright, wondered if anyone here wears a Leatt neck brace regularly for general fun riding or commuting? Or if anyone has tried one on, if they are heavy/light, comfortable, restrictive, worth the extra protection in your opinion for day to day riding, or maybe a good idea for track days where higher speeds may be involved in accidents?

They're quite in fashion in downhill mountain biking at the moment, I've seen plenty of guys riding with just the neck brace and a helmet and no other protection though quite how many of them have fallen off and only hurt their necks is a mystery...

I've not seen anyone wearing one on the road (although they're also popular in motocross) and to be honest I haven't really looked into them due to the price being quite high, my leather jacket and helmet were both cheaper than one of those braces but I feel I gain a lot more protection from those 2 items.

i've only ever seen one on the road (a KTM branded one), but what i can remember of a review when they came out was that for on road they weren't very good and restricted you doing lifesavers.

so in short good for MX/dirt riding but bad for everything else Thumbs Up

I owned one for karting as they work really well for that. It was the carbon fibre really light 'sport' model I believe.

On the road they wouldn't work at all, they prevent you tilting or turning your head much in the same way a HANS device does but without the cable attachments meaning you can't do lifesavers or look to your side etc.

HTH. Thumbs Up.
