MY daugthers boyfriend annouces that he has a Sachs XTC125 sitting in his back garden.
The thing is that it has been there for nearly three years, without ever being touched Rolling Eyes Sad
Now he decides that he wants to get it going again Shocked .

It will not even move, as the brakes are siezed on?
So I am thinking of getting a squirty bottle and filling it with diesel, squirting it into every nook and cranny I can find, then leaving it for a week.
what do the mighty BCF think?, or is there another penetrating oil that is better?
Has anyone come across this bike before? and is there any hidden problems that are specific to this bike?.
I hav`nt even seen it in the flesh yet but i`m guessing that the pads are stuck to the disc?...what to do?
Possibly the steel bolts that hold the ally calipers to the forks will have corroded themselves together.. what to do?

any info about the bike or any ideas about solving these problems is welcome......thanks Thumbs Up

Is it the two stroke or 4 stroke one?

2t uses a Yamaha DT engine, with a TZR exhaust. The 4t uses a Suzuki FX125 engine

There's a specific forum for them at
https://sachsxtc125.com/forums/index.php

seems reasonably active (no where near as much as this place though)

Diesel is ok and cheap(ish). For really hard to reach bits Plusgas in aerosol form is handy (easiest to buy off eBay)

Not seen it yet.
Until today, I did`nt even know they did a 4-stroke and a 2-stroke Surprised .
Never even heard of a Suzuki FX 125?

Ahh! good old Plus-Gas! I did`nt think you could still get that stuff?

Thank you for the pointer to the forum Thumbs Up

The best thing to do is whatever is required to get it half usable. Even if suspension is ceased up and things look like ass, go it usable. Once it's usable odd jobs can be done every now and then rather than it turning into a drawn out restoration project.

Best way to tell if it's the 2T or 4T is to look for an expansion chamber. Brake discs rust and can bond to the pads or at least fail to turn. Spin the wheels if you can to clean them up. This will of course destroy the brake pads, but you wouldn't want to keep them anyway. If the wheels won't turn get the callipers off (may require you to detach the pads then pull the calliper off leaving the pad behind), check the pistons and seals over, push them back in and stick the pads back in and clean the discs up. Obviously buy new pads Razz

The oil will need to be drained, replaced and the system possibly flushed. The tank if left empty may be full of rust, if left full it will be full of stale fuel. Carbs will need cleaning, air filter checking for mould, tires checked for cracks in the walls, coolant replaced things will need rust cleaning off them etc.

Looking into this a bit more (google is my friend) I think the 2-stroke is the rare one?

having not seen the bike yet, but knowing my luck it will be beyond economic salvage and be the rare one Rolling Eyes .
I dont hold up a lot of hope at the moment as I`m not convinced he is serious about getting it going?we shall see?

Break it for parts Thumbs Up .

Might want to invest in some plusgas shares if you go that route though Mr. Green .

I would say his best option is to break it for spares and buy something else.

3 cross who were the official importers of the sachs can take 6 months to get parts if they're available in the first place. The suzuki fx125 engine was only available in some far east markets.

Most likely reason the brakes are siezed is that the pisons are rusted in the calipers.
As I remember its a loverly little bike, but it would prove a bit difficult to fix up, but if its all there, I'd say it may be worth it.
Ordering bits by model may be expensive & subject to delay, but as far as I recall the only model specific bits were the frame & body-work, everything else was a generic part ordered from catalogue by Sach's, so the calipers will be something like a Grimeca, and pistons & seals will be generic and probably used on something like an Aprillia or Cagiva, or as likely as not a KTM, but no matter.
You do a little searching, and if you cant turn up the bits you need from catalogue description, you measure up and order by dimensions.
Personally I'd start by just removing the brake calipers to get the bike rolling. They can be expensive to over-haul, so I'd leave them till last, or at least until I knew enough to know if the bike was 'viable'.
Just becouse its been sat two or three years doesn't mean it need be a complete dodo, depends where its been stood and what was wrong with it before it got neglected.
After removing the brake calipers so I could wheel it about, my first job would be to see if I had a battery that would go in its battery tray, or hook up a boost-box, and see what lights up, and if there was any life in the engine. If not, the usuals. Fresh-Petrol, clean the carb, change the spark-plug, see if that gives any joy.
If so, theres a good chance that it could be ressurected without too much anguish.
But....... its not your bike........
Help... dont 'do'!

Interesting?I`m thinking that if it`s Suzuki, then surely I will be able to order bits through a Suzuki dealer, should I need to??

Thank you folks for your input, I now have something to think on Smile

No need to worry bout the rusty tank as the tank is plastic. If he decides to break it i would be interested in the screen Smile

Do you know why its been in your mates garden for the past 3 years?

May give some insight as to whats wrong with it. No doubt it broke down or he crashed it, seems thats all thats required for them to be pushed into a corner and forgotten about.

You'd think it'd be easy to walk into a suzuki dealer and get parts for an fx125. Let us know how it goes Smile
