Sound Card Problems.

Ok, got a Sound Blaster X-fi Extreme Audio. Installed 'ok' yesterday but uninstalled the drivers as i had some volume problems. Tried a 3rd party driver & got a BSOD so went back to the official drivers.

I keep getting a red cross in the taskbar (on the speaker icon) & exclamation marks over the sound card in 'Device Manager' so i uninstalled the drivers, use a cleaner, reboot, install drivers & it seems to install find, even tells me to reboot to see changes but when it boots up it repeats all over again.

I've disabled the on board sound in the Bios, changed ports & so have no idea what's wrong. Also, every time i reboot after uninstalling the drivers, Creative automatically starts installing the whole lot i.e media centre & auto update.

When i go into Device Manager it tells me that the best driver software for my sound card is already installed & the status says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

I'm using an Asus MB & W7 32.

Sounds stupid but there are issues online without people having to put the sound card in the first PCI slot.

Have you told BIOS to use the PCI slot in question.

Install the drivers again, go into BIOS and tell BIOS to use the PCI slot you have chosen to slot the card into.

Upon first stage boot loading process, press f2, f8, f10 or f11 depending on your system config, set the apropriate settings, f10 to save changes normally.

Boot into safemode
In device manager find sound card and select uninstall
reboot
install manufactures driver

Just wondering if you have windows 7 or Vista. It may be a driver compatability issue.

If you have a desk top icon for the audio driver in question you may have to run in compatability mode.
Right click on the icon?properties>compatibility>run in compatability mode.

Vista service pack 2 I believe.

And then there was light. Yeah I find that if drivers are not released specifically for windows 7 there are problems.
Compatibility mode is the issue.

Sorry, yeah the bottom instructions are just other options.
Here are somer more:
Could be 32 bit 64 bit issue too (Ignore this for now)

You can try installing the driver as below:



Install under compatibility mode & Administrator level

1. Right click on the installation file (setup.exe) and click Properties.

2. Click on the Compatibility tab.

3. Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for.”

4. Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop down list.

5. Select “Run this program as an administrator” option under the Privilege Level topic.

6. Click Apply, click OK.



Right click on the setup file and choose Run as administrator to install it again.



You can also try the XP driver and install it under XP compatible mode.



If it does not work, perform the following steps:



Install driver

1. Click the Start Button, type Device Manager in the search bar and press Enter. Click Continue if necessary.

2. Find out your sound card in Other Device or Sound, video and game controllers.

3. Right click on it and click Update Driver Software…

4. Select the "Search Automatically for update driver software".



If it does not work, repeat step 1-3 above and choose "Browse my computer for driver software". Check "Include subfolder" box, and click Browse….Browse to C:\windows folder, click OK. Click Next.



If it still does not work, you may need to buy a compatible sound card.

Creative drivers a fucking awful.

My Audigy 2 super duper platinum XSGTi or whatever the bollocks its called shows up as about 3 devices. THe soundcard, some other crap and the firewire host.

Maybe the soundcard drivers are installed but not the rest?

As to it starting installing the suite all the time. Check the startup entries in the registry.

I tried some of the above but it was annoying me too much, been trying all morning.

Anywho, i took the looong way round the problem & formatted & installed X64 W7 & it's working fine now. I remember reading about someone doing the same which is why i gave it a shot. I couldn't bare it any longer.
