Off-road style hand guards

My heated grip have almost stop working,and i am thinking of away for when the real cold weather come,when i started biking first a used to have a wee dt 125 and it had the off-road style hand guards which would deflect wind away from your hands.

I was reading somewhere that some riders cut large plastic bottles, such as those used for liquid bleach, in half and clamp them in front of the grips and levers to, er, break wind.

I have never used these before,reason been i always feared they would restrict hand/lever movement

bleach bottles. .... come on, have some self respect! ... but yes hand guards or better still muffs will help, but some new heated grips probably aren't much/any more expensive!

What about gel hand-warmers ?

Just put them inside your gloves - will do a similar job to your heated grips.

I have never used these personally, but I know a guy thats put them in his gloves and drives his car with them on. He is a weirdo.

Old-style hand guards did deflect a bit more wind away than the new ones, which don't make a massive difference.
However, personally I'd definitely go for muffs. If you don't like the feeling of them around your hands (I got used to it quite quickly), then some new style off road guards will mean they aren't restrictive at all. My preferred combo for off-road bikes is muffs with heated grips - can then wear thin motocross gloves in the depths of winter, get them soaked and still not have cold hands.
