To the rider of the red zx6r parked outside Bristol Business School at UWE bristol today, I'll have a fosters in the Student Union please!

Rode into uni and parked where I probably shouldnt, same as every day along with most the other bikes, theres often a red zx6r J1 (exactly same model and colour scheme as mine) parked where I park.

Ive never seen the rider, and being as sad as I am I park near it if i can. However, today I noticed this bike had an extra item attached....

Keys left in the ignition!

After hanging around for 5 mins, and not a rider / owner in sight I locked the bike up left a note and handed the keys in to the university reception.

I can only imagine the emotions the owner must have gone through, the realisation they cant find their key, running out to the bike to see the key gone, before seeing the note and getting the keys back - must have been a huge relief!

Anyways, that and handing in a smart phone I found the other day I now think Karma should reward me when i buy my next lottery ticket! (It wont, my shares took a battering today - even good deeds such as this wont save me from mistakes of the past it seems....!)

I only hope if Im ever absentminded enought to do something similar then it'll end with a similar happy ending!

I saw a silver fazer parked up in by bristol uni the other day with it's parking lights on. I switched them off to same him a flat battery, but it was parked on the steepest hill in bristol so it's not like he would have had any trouble bump starting it anyway.

Phones are pretty much useless now though arent they, get locked by the provider? Though thats not really the point its more the info thats on them thats a pain in the arse to replace, kind of like when you lose a wallet its not the cash so much more the cards and other rubbish.

A few years back I was perhaps a bit less scrupulous than I am now, then things may have gone differently, with regards to both items.

Like to think ive learnt a bit now,and try to be a bit more "community spirited"!

I must admit though, following the recent thread about dropping mine on the drive and sustaining a few scratches to my bike, seeing an identical bike with scratch free panels a cunning plan did, for a very brief second, cross my mind! :p

I don't think there is a problem with parking by the bike racks outside Bristol Business School + Faculty of Tech, they even talked about putting helmet lockers there at one point

I always used to just leave my helmet on top of the lockers in faculty of tech and put my jacket ect into the locker

I one managed to leave my year-old BMW R-100 parked on the street in West London (just off Horn Lane in Acton) for several weeks with the key in the ignition, nobody touched it! Don't think that would happen these days (I can't afford new bikes anymore, for one thing).

My favourite place to leave my keys is the cowl lock under the bike I've done it too many times but normally realise within a couple of minutes, so have never gone far, but still pretty stupid!

My house keys are attached to the same fob as my bike keys and I have been guilty of getting all the way to the front door before realizing that I have no key to open the door!

Well done to the OP although any normal person would probably have had the bike away.

When actually you are seeing a small section of a small section of society, there are quite a few 'civilised' people in chavtastic estates just they don't hang out on the street corners.

Also while sadly perhaps more than 50% of the population would take a wallet they found, I seriously doubt many would steal a motorbike just because the keys were left in the ignition.

Nipped to a mates house about 6 months ago to drop off some stuff of his... Left my keys dangling from my topbox and ended up getting chattin while i was in the house.. (This was in fallowfield, manchester)..

A friendly passing biker knocked on.. and stood on the doorstep dangling my keys at me.
