Why have you decided you want a bike in this category - why are you ruling out anything 600s and 1000+s?

What he ^^ said, Z750's are shite by all accounts, my S4 is quicker in a straight line and far superiors handling. (Handling is based on magazine reviews saying the S4 is amazing and the Z750 is shit)

If you insist on something in that area, Ducati did do a 750 monster but it was gutless and Aprilla do a 750 I think it is called a shiver, I don't know much about them then.

Kawasaki also do the ER6n and Suzuki do a naked SV, both 650's but again slower than the majority of 600 nakeds.

Hyosung also do a naked 650.

Older speed Triples are 885cc or 955cc.

For some reason he's interested in bikes between 600 and 1000cc? That rules out most of them.

They got good reviews when they came out and I do like mine, it's certainly quick enough for me.

They main failing point is the shock and must be replaced but something like a Hagon or Ohlins. then it's fine.

have a 600, not enough shove two up, not sure if i want a 1000, thought somewhere in between would be good but it doesnt seem to exist. there must be some market for it, otherwise why did yamaha do the fz8, kwak z750, and why are gsxr750s still going? id get the latter but dont fancy the riding position or the insurance (and doesnt look much fun for a pillion which defeats a lot of the purpose!).

obviously NOT including 600s and thous otherwise the list would be about 18x longer than that and there wouldnt be much of a question in the first place.

id count most 650s in with the 600s and 955, etc in with the 1000s

...street trip seems like a good call + shiver, vfr. all pretty expensive though. 900 hornet might fit the bill, which is what i was thinking to begin with! anyway, i like posting here. always plenty of debate. cheers!

Seriously why are you limiting it?

A 955 isn't much faster than a modern 600 sports. The 750 twins are definitely slower.

S 955 will also be cheaper to insure.

You count 650's as 600 but not a 675? Where do you draw the line? Again most sports 600's would be the same speed/quicker than a Striple R

Engine size is not really indicative of power or performance. There are plenty of thousand+ bikes that could be beaten by 250s/400s.

How about a Buell XB9??

Its only 84bhp, so not massively powerful, but still plenty of grunt from the 980cc V-Twin, cool to look at, and will handle a pillion OK!!

Can be picked up for cheap now as well!!!

obviously im generalising a bit otherwise you could say well theyre all motorbikes. counted 650s in with 600s as they all seem to have equal/lower outputs and are beginnerish bikes or derived from 600s in the first place.

only reason i said yes about the street triple is that it has an almost completely flat torque curve and produces the peak torque of most 600s throughout the entire rev range which sounds like it suits what im looking for (better two up performance). a sports 6 might be quicker at license losing speeds or on a track at 10k+ but i dont think theyd perform any better during normal riding.
