Alpinestars GP Pro - or - Knox Handriod ?

Which would you say to go for?

similiar price region


the Knox gloves look very safe and apparently very nice inside the glove.

the GP Pro's just look that must nicer though. the colours are richer and i am think of getting Alpinestars leathers.


potential leather colour scheme, will be red black and white so gloves will be either the same or of white and black.

tough choice, i've got the same one.. havent decided yet

i've heard rumours that the knox arent as well made as you think, stitching coming undone etc.. but nothing substaniated.

i love the look and fit of the knox but i have astars gpx shortys and some 365s and they're both excellent so i trust those.

its a tough choice indeed. will be interesting to see what people reckon

Alpine stars are like iPod, an 'ok' product but totally overpriced due to the name.

I'd go with the Knox because they look cool, or with Berik/Arlen ness because you get more for your £££.

I voted Knox.

I tried a mates on and they are super comfortable and flexible not stiff as i was expecting, felt and looked very well made

haven't tried the other ones so can't comment.

I've tried both, Alpine stars just don't seem to fit my hands right, maybe they would take time to wear in, don't know.
Knox handroids just seemed to fit perfect from the start. and look way better.

Trouble is, I can't afford either at the moment.

Those knox gloves are shit! Loads have been returned because the stitching is too close to the edges and come undone, and don't crash that well apparently either as most of the armour is on the top.

Have you though about spidi? I love my race vents, have ridden in them well over 8,000 miles and still look brand new, and don't stink like my alpinestars did!

Always had Alpinestars gloves(apart from a pair of Nankai NRG's)and think they are the best albeit a little overpriced.

FIRST OF ALL, I would like to say a very big thank you for everyone who has voted or commented so far, I am very impressed indeed by the quality of the "community spirit" I have seen from this thread (my 1st thread on here) I only joined a couple of hours ago after I decided I wanted to find a good quality (UK based if possible) bikers forum, I feel like this has definitely been achieved by signing up to this forum and I hope I get to know this place better. I joined my second road bike forum a few months ago which is a CBR forum and the community did not feel strong at all. So I will be on here from now on!

As to the subject of the thread, I am interested in the poll results so far I would not have thought alpinestars would be loosing this battle if Im honest. Although I can see the point with overpricing and particularly like the "ipod" reference, especially as I am a bit of an Apple fan haha your right though!

I PERSONALLY (from the images iv seen for both online) feel the A-stars glove is far better looking, the Knox gloves look like the colours are all faded and not too keen, the comfort factor does seem to be there with the Knox glove, but looks like the build quality is not.

I think I am currently still swaying towards the Alpinestars on every level but the Comfort factor, so I could swayn the other way.

All the points that have been made have actually made the choice tougher, but at least when I come to buy a set of which glove turns out to be the best then at least I will be sure I have made the right choice so keep the comments coming.

I would perhaps consider a Spidi glove, but I really don't think I will actually go for anything but the two in question, mainly because I want the A-stars glove my the new technology offer from Knox is the factor that is making me consider that as an alternative. Dainese would have been nice but to be honest I am not that keen on the actual DESIGN and STYLING of the Dainese products on the whole at the moment but in know way doubt their superior quality and protection but @ a price though!

Apparently knox had a bad batch and they have sorted the stitching now. Have a look at the other knox gloves

I have the GP Plus gloves and find them quite comfy but I don't like the buckle system, the metal loop digs into my arm slightly, but I have heard bad reports on the Knox which is a shame as they look proper sex

I tried on the handroids and didnt really like them, it fit alright but it was all the bits of faff along the top. It felt like i could snag it on something and get my hand caught i.e. bolts and screws under the screen etc. Arlen ness ones felt a bit cheap for what they were charging. I have a pair of A* GP Pro's and they are a good glove, armour feels just right in the right places and i like the hard mould plastic cuff. Another glove i was considering was Wolf Road Techs.

Have the GP Pro and they are the best gloves I have ever worn. I've got the Tech Road goretex gloves. I also have the GP Plus gloves. The kangaroo is very supple and for me, I value feel and feedback as much as comfort. I'm used to having the webbed finger bridge so it's no biggie to me.

Gp plus still looks good as new (despite having 30k miles worth of usage out of them). Gp Pros have been WELL WORN so some of the panels have been worn down. I've used them for 10k miles so far in all weathers and all the plastics & stitching is holding out well. The plastic cuffs don't restrict movement OR constrict your wrist.

GP Pros as worn by spies and pedrosa.

Wow that Knox glove looks like a cyborg hand.

I have GP Pro's and they work good. Bit cold in winter but very good quality actually.

Nice wrist protection and lasted me 2, maybe 3 years now.

Also the stitching on the AP is extremely good. I have a large hand but ordered medium by accident, they didn't fit at first and hurt a lot but after 2 whole months of forcing them in, they are stretched out and still good. I didn't want to post back for a return because I was lazy.

I felt I had to vote for A*, because my current / long-term gloves are A* SP1's

I've tried the Knox ones on in a shop, but didn't feel the immediate comfort in the same way that I did with the SP1's

Just chuck in my two cents.

I've had a pair of Alpinestar SP1's for two years as my primary summer glove and they're not showing any sign of wear. I only got them as they were half RRP, as I had the idea that A* stuff is over priced. But I'm very happy with them.

I've tried the GP Pro in shops and they felt really comfortable, If I loose my SP1's I'll be getting a pair.

I tried the Knox handroids too, but they never left any sort of impression.

I've found the SP1's, SP2's, GP Plus, Pros and other winter A* gloves I've tried on all fit me nicely, so my hand shape must suit A* gloves.
