signing for a log book.

Im going to look at a bike tomorrow, its for the mrs's birthday as a supprise, now obviously i need to sign it in her name, i have her signature wich ive copyed a few times
Is the signature something that is checked, or is it just for there records incase the car/bike is stolen?

I cant see it being that big of an issue, but have any of you guys done it?

Cant you just buy it and get her to sign it when she knows? Depending on when that is? Just get the guy to sign his bits, then your wife can sign hers as of her birthday and then send it off.

shell be getting the bike in 10 days, and the guy sends off the part "she" has to sign.. and in this day in age, its not often the seller trusts the buyer to send off the log book.

i can get it pretty near to be honest, and she wouldnt object.

No problem. I bough the missus a Puma a couple of weeks ago and signed the V5 in her name, nothing like her signature.V5 came in a week. They don't check.

Only time it'd be a slight issue if there was a dispute of some sort - say you took it out for a ride, went past a speed trap and buggered off, then left the bike at a mate's house.
The police go up to your Mrs and say "so, what were you doing on your bike this morning?" when she denies all knowledge, THEN they might actually have a look at the signature, otherwise it doesn't mean anything at all as far as I know.
For instance, I signed as my mum for her car I was selling (twice) without trying to copy her signature or anything.

I've signed as seller and buyer before, admittedly in the more trusting days when you gave the buyer the whole log book.
