Popped to Fowlups today and followed a desmodici into the place, it sounds like the God Thor having an orgasm while shitting thunder. Cant believe how tiny the thing is.
Then round the corner was the stunning VFR, was a nice day today!

Both extremely nice bikes.

However I'd prefer to have them both sat in my garage next to a deck chair.

So I could then sit and look at them whilst having a cup of tea, as I'd feel guilty about riding them.

Is that bike the fastest Road bike then since it is apparently from a Moto GP design?

It's from an old MotoGP design and has been softened a fair bit for use on the roads. It's certainly quick and impressive, but mostly desirable for it's uniqueness.
They tested one against Ducati's top end 999 and they were about even. That wasn't any normal 999 but the 999RS i think, which is one of those ones they make about 300 of just so they're allowed to use them as the basis for the race bikes.

300 BHP?

Does that mean they have been soften up to be less than a R1 for example?

The ducati looks like a mid 80's jellymould honda. Definately not sure about it.

Frosty meant they made 300 of those 999's.

I don't think they did Confused But I might be wrong!

They tested one against a 1098R, which is still a £25k bike, they were the same round the track, but they said if they had changed the sprockets on the Desmo it would have been quicker, the gearing was just to long for the track. But there both very pricey bikes, the 1098R is a WSBK rep, and the Desmo is a GP rep, so there both very high end bikes!

I wonder how much it would cost to get my VFR to look/smell the same as that race rep... Although my VFR is in part bits and smell's of WD40 and old petrol - although the petrol could just be my garage... It's sexy... Shifty

However, I would sadly have the Ducati over the VFR, it would be sat in my garage next to a more comfortable seat than just a deck chair.. Probably this:

Although I would adapt it to have a drinks shelf on the right hand side. It would be most delightful on a sunday afternoon...

It might have been the 1098 i forget, it was a long time ago though so i thought it was the 999. the 1098R isn't a WSBK rep any more than a ferrari F40 is a GT car rep. Both are made in limited numbers usually the minimum number required to allow them to be used as a basis for a production class racing machine. The road going version is then modified to make it the race version. This is the opposite of the DesmoRR which is a race bike modified for use of the road by detuning the engine, using softer suspension, improved ground clearance, probably 17" wheels so that normal road tyres will fit etc.

RC30, to me, is more desirable.Legendary bike.

The Desmo just seems to be another hyperspace bike, but with a stupid price tag.

I must have no soul. The ducati looks nice, maybe looks a few years old but in good nick. In the other picture all I see is a pastle coloured VFR that I might use as a second bike for winter.

Im not one for nostalgia! Im guessing the honda must have some sort of fantastic engineering and the ducati must be worth a bomb? Wink

Both are icon rare bikes of their day. The RC30 probably just comes from a day you don't remember. Both are very well engineered and are the pinnacle of road going design and performance of their day and will no doubt become rarer and more valuable. So using either as a winter hack would be like wiping your arse on the mona lisa Wink

One mans treasure is another mans trash I guess. I can understand why things such as the mona lisa or in this case a honda can be historically important but Ive always struggled to associate desireability with it.

I understand that people can hold such things in high regard though, I just cant get my head round it all. I respect how people feel about such items but I would part with either of those bikes for the rightprice if I had them. Whens the Honda from and whys it so important? Whats a realistic value?
