Hi guys, I may well be concerned about nothing I'll admit, but should the transmission housing on my 400cc savage be far too hot to touch after a short ride in the country,about 30 minutes , relatively quick but not going over 100kph (60mph). I have done a couple of minor mods, pod filter and carb jet (proper model specific kit) bike is running great, and I never took notice of any excessive heat before I performed these mods, not to say that it wasn't getting hot beforehand. The only other thing that I have done is changed the oil, although I'm pretty sure I didn't cock that up. Is this sort of heat normal or is something likely to be going wrong, any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers

This is the issue up-jetting the carb. I read on American bike forums how they seem to like to tinker with upjetting carbs and changing the transmitions on Jap and english bikes. They then post pics of exhaust glowing cheery red and ask why. Akin to the proverbial “Lost over weight American tourist looking for his tour guide.

I can understand the transmission issue because of the very long roads they rid on.

But yeah jokes aside the upjetting is the issue here. Some air cooled 4 strokes actually have iol coolers fitted as standard.


I would recommend you give your bike plenty of oil changes or even consider uping the viscosity (more viscus slightly) of oil you use very slightly making sure it's semi synth too, cos you will fry it fairly quickly.
