I went into the Infinity store in York on Monday looking for a nice pair of armoured/waterproof trousers for travelling to & from work in,instead of jeans.

I found a nice pair of Frank Thomas in my size for £75 on the ticket, but they were placed on a peg with £99.99 above them.
Anyway I liked them & was gonna buy them when the missus told me that they had to sell them to me at the ticket price not the peg price. (She works for a recently taken over supermarket chain so wasn't gonna argue.)

Anyway sure enough the young sales lad notices the tag price & wanders off with my trousers to his manager & I thought he was gonna tell me that the price was wrong & it should be £99.99. I'd have let loose the missus on him then....lol.

To my suprise he came back & said "We're having an open day/evening on Wednesday & these trousers are going to be £49.99 that day, would you like me to put them to one side & come & get them at the reduced price on Wednesday." Shocked

Jeez, blow me down with a feather. A shop which actually wants to sell you something at a lower price! Thumbs Up

Top marks to the young assistant, nervous young chap but we all gotta learn sometime.

Top marks to Infinity for being so honest & upfront as most places will sell the item at the full price & then not tell you they'll be reduced in a couple of days.

I can whole-heartedly recommend Infinity (York Store) to all you boys & girls if you're passing, pleasant bunch of people & a great choice of goods. Wink

(Before anyone asks I don't work for them!) Razz

Sounds like it was good service and they were interested in having a happy customer rather than just getting your money. Thumbs Up

In my experience not all of the Infinity stores are even close to being like this (they used to be Riossi and before that Motorcycle City but were sold and rebranded Infinity) as the one in Farnborough managed to break my TL1000R when I paid them lots of money to fix the gearbox. Thumbs Down They eventually admitted this and fixed it for free but thats one branch I suggest staying a long way away from and not even considering giving them a penny of your money as they didn't strike me as being at all interested in customer service, they were being helpful before I gave them my money but once they'd been paid my me they were not the slightest bit interested, and it took a few letters sent to the managing director before they agreed to fix the bits of my engine they'd broke. If by Wednesday you mean the 28th July then I'll try and get along after work. I got a good deal on the Nolan helmet from them. Like to support local sellers (rather than mail order/internet) when I can.

Yeah, Infinity are good in York Thumbs Up , they tend to get batches of cheap stuff in every now and then as they flog off end of line stuff that they collect in from other stores. They also have a fair bit of stuff thats not on display, so if you dont see it, just ask.

Gazanimal: are you from york as well then? Very Happy

Not from York myself. I live in Bridlington about 37 miles away.

My missus is from York though & her parents still live there so we have a cheap B&B if we need to stop over.

Maybe see you folks there later on. Wink

I use infinity for 90% of my bike gear. definately the best there is in York for choice. Hein Gericke is good but the shop here has limited choice even in sizes most things need to be ordered in. Don't need anything at the moment but the preview evenings and sales are always worth a look there. They also constantly have rotation on the stock of at least one item reduced mainly the helmets at half price. Not to mention they're selling bikes again and have a good selection Thumbs Up . Worth a look if your passing through York Thumbs Up

I like the Infinity store in York as well. having just started riding I need a bit of direction about what kit to get and have found the staff in there to be really good. I'm probably going to drop in to the open evening tonight to see what's in cheap.

Gazanimal, a shop doesn't legally have to sell you goods at the ticketed price although most people seem to believe that they do, including many shop staff. The ticket price is known (I think) as an "invitation to contract" and isn't legally binding. However, many shops still honour the price shown as a matter of goodwill.

Lots of shops do say that if the marked price differs from the actual price they will honour the lower one, but they are under no obligations to do so at all, or if they wanted to they could just change their prices whenever they want to and the first time you find out about it is when you're coming to pay.

Just like in the same way any businesses can choose not to deal with you, as it is their business and them choosing to sell you goods or services is their choice entirely and they can just turn around and say no if they wanted to.

Gazanimal thanks for the heads up. Popped along tonight and spent some money. Probably ended up with the same type of textile trousers you went for. Had a look at the full price items and I could't spot any difference.

Ta again Very Happy Thumbs Up

There is yes, but I would never ever again take a bike or any money near them! They did a good job of breaking my TL1000R and then took their time argueing over the fact it broke after they had been working on the engine! Tried to say "no, we're not responsible for any other bits of the engine other than the gearbox" (was the gearbox they worked on). Interesting, as the engine apart from the gearbox had no problems when I took it in there, and they dismanlted the entire engine to work on the gearbox. They get a big Evil or Very Mad Thumbs Down as they really were incompetant muppets who shouldn't be trusted to service a push bike let alone a motorbike!! If you want to see the website to find out which shops near you to avoid like the plague you can look at their site here.

Ste,

Where did you go after that, any recommendations? I have been trying to find somewhere I can trust to get my bike serviced.

I must confess, I have always had a mental block about using Inifinity in Farnborough as they used to be the dreaded Motorcycle City, as we all know, the worst place on earth to take your bike.

Their parts department is good, always seem to get it right and are very helpful. Not like Bike Bitz in Yately, I have only been there three times for parts and every time I havehad to go back and explain it was the wrong part.

Maybe I should open my own shop.... Smile

Havn't been anywhere after that as the TL only got delivered back fixed when I was in hospital so havn't had the need or chance to go anywhere else. If I was wanting my bike to be worked on by a shop, a place called Maximum Throttle inf Fleet have been good before, they are a little bit slow sometimes at actually doing the work, but when it's done it's always been good I've found. Also MTC Motorcycles in Reading are very good, not had any servicing work done by them, but have had minor stuff done and help from them has been good, and know people who have had servicing done by them and were very pleased with the work, as they do know what they're doing and talking about.

Havn't had the chance to use Infinity's parts department myself, but have used Bike Bitz before and have be pleased enough, but have only used them for buying little bits and boots and stuff not anything complicated basically

Hope this is of some help. Thumbs Up

Well I popped along to pick up my trousers that had been reserved & to browse through the rest of the bargain stock. Most of it was Frank Thomas stock but if you were a size 6,7 or 8 in boot size then you could pick up a pair of Aplinestar SMX-3 for £50. Shocked

I couldn't believe it....shame my bloody feet were too big. Crying or Very sad

Ste,it seems that you got a raw deal from an Infinity branch but I think that I can say that it's not true of the majority of branches.
I can't comment on the York branches repair/servicing department but their customer care within the store is spot on. Wink
