Generic trigger sm 50?

Hi guys,

Ive been looking at mopeds (not for me, for my friend who is useless at this sort of stuff).

Ive shown him a few super moto's and he says he really likes the look of them, its his birthday in 3 days and he want's to get a bike by then.

After searching on ebay i noticed a bike called a generic trigger sm 50, ive never heard of these before and they look really nice.
Also most on ebay for sale dont have many miles and are in mint condition appose to the other bikes on ebay which have like 11k miles and have been thrashed.

anyone have an idea on what they are like?
i know they look nice, but what about performance and reliability.

Looks trick but sounds like a chinese POS with a name like 'Generic Trigger' What you want in a first bike is something that is reliable (can't comment on that as i don't own one), easy to maintain and is easy to get parts for when that first spill happens.

Chinese bikes tend to be hit or miss, either it will have no probs or the frame will snap. Look at the thread all about chinese bikes!

Personally I would go for a Derbi Senda / Suzuki TS / Aprilia SX 50 Yamaha DT etc as a first bike if he likes the offroad looks. The reason they have done 11k is because they can and a cheap chinese bike can get expensive if you have to spend money on it.

If he wants a new bike for little money then he may be willing to take the risk, Just make sure you check it over before handing over money (Applies with any bike)

I'm not biased in any way as I own a Korean Hyosung.....which is a really good underated bike for the money.

I had one, just sold it to buy a 125. I picked up a bit of a dud from the garage, so spent a small fortune repairing it. It was a pretty nifty bike after a full engine rebuild + plenty of parts, but I'd stick with the big names. It does have some pretty trick parts, like upside down forks and wavy disks, but you don't really need those on a 50 heh.

Searching for 'generic parts' is also a PITA.

For a budget of around £800 to £1000 quid he could get a well known brand supermoto and then when he's finished with it in a years time he will probably sell it for £800 to £1000 if he hasn't trashed it.

Generic Trigger bought for £1500 new will be worth around £700 if not less a year later.

But it's his money, we can only express a opinion.

Don't do it, as tempting as it is it's a heap of shit.

As said already, get a well known name!

You will regret it if you got that, read some of the stuff on chinese bikes!

I bought my generic trigger brand new off ebay for a grand which was an amazing deal! I have now owned the bike for 10 months and thought id give my opinion.

it has been mechanically sound the entire time i have had it start almost every time apart from when i didnt ride it for three weeks due to ice. it started fourth starter press and it was freesing cold.

As long as you keep on top of maintinance and keep everything in good condition i doubt you will have a problem.

now there are not without downsides to this bike... the front of the exhaust has rusted but i expected this on a £1000 BRAND NEW BIKE. It isn't very quick either (i expected this aswell because it is only a 50cc) it is fully restricted and will do 35ish on flats and ive hit 50 going downhill (but i felt abusive at 50mph). You dont notice how slow it is at first becuase of the exitment of your first bike but after about 8 months it start to feel very slow but all mopeds will even honda's and yamaha's. but after riding various 125cc and a honda xr 400 regulaly you notice it.

i have covered 3000km and overall this bike has never let me down it cost me £12 to fill up and will last me a month which is nice and i know that i will get slate off someone who worships branded bikes for 'advertising chinese bikes' when they have almost certianly never owned one!
I can only speak for generic and i can say they are very good and would definatly recommend one to anyone!!!!!!!!!!

tips if you are buying/ just got one

the odometer reads in km not miles because it is chinese.
keep and eye on the chain it will go loose over time and will need tightening (which is easy).
be careful not to put the stand down on mud becuase it will not stand! it will break your hand guard and mirror ( they are quite cheap to replace however)
they are big bikes im 6ft 4 and it fits me well if you are 5ft 10 you would be ok any smaller than that would be a challenge

My bike will be on ebay at the end of august because im getting a 125. black and red Generic Trigger x50 competition.

i know that horror stories exist but i haven't witnessed one (very happy about that) but one horror story it told a million times over on the internet and is blown out of proportion. js
