Posted: 20:26 - 16 Oct 2010 Post subject: Is the Choke Jet in use when the Choke is off? (Chain Lube) |
 |
|
Basically completely re-doing my bike as the previous owner ruined it. There was a size 50 choke jet in it but the manual recommends a size 45. Im also fitting a metrakit exhaust as the other one is a bit fooked so obviously I have to upjet. Found out about sizes etc and basically I only need to do the main jet.
Also I am buying all new jets, even if they are the same size. So surely, if I buy a 50 jet, its upjetting so it should be fine. Thing is, the actual jet that is in there isn't available in size 45 on Dell'orto's website. That leads me to think that it is the actual wrong jet...
Also, in the category for my jet (PHVA 14), there isn't the actual jet I have got (https://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=6217&CategoryID=2&PartsectionID=51) but there is two others. One that has sizes 40 and 45, and another with 40, 45 and 50. That makes me think it is that one (https://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=13815&CategoryID=2&PartsectionID=26).
So what am I to do. Do I go with the one thats in there, or get the one it says I should have. In my manual, which is actually the worst manual I have ever seen, it doesn't say a part number, just a jet size.
Also, would it matter a lot if I run a 50 choke jet? Surely when its running without choke on it wouldn't be used?
Also, before I began re-doing my bike, it never needed choke to start, if that means anything.
Thanks for any help
Oh and while Im at it; my dad is after some chain lube for my bike. I don't want some WD-40 sort of stuff though. He said to get something that actually sticks to the chain so when you go fast it doesn't just fling off. He also said its white

AFAIK idle/main/pilot are the only jets ive ever heard mentioned.
The choke is usually a plate that restricts the air flow. If you are changing the exhaust... and de-restricting the bike.. i believe you change the main jet...
A quick google does suggest Dellorto sell a choke jet.. but whether its just a different name for a standard jet.. |

None as such. Just replacing all the jets as they were all pretty much out. And the needle was bent. Replaced the piston/rings and had to have the barrel re-bored(?) and slightly larger rings as the previous rider fucked it. It wasn't revving very high and the piston and barrel were scored. Aswell as this the top of the piston was very sooty. Looks like the spark plug was too long aswell. Plus he was running Tesco's own shitty oil. So he fucked that all up really. Front end of the exhaust had rusted inside and most of the electrics are just wrapped up in tape and some bits aren't connected but it all seems to work apart from the indicators not working and the rear brake doesn't make the brake light come on so that could be a relay and bad connections.
Also gonna whach a new clutch in as when I push it when the engine is off while its in gear it sorta jumps and locks up. The clutch is also adjusted fully. Cant find a standard clutch and springs only race clutch with springs so I just gotta hope the springs are okay.
