This is the classic trap.
Someone tells you how they feel, you are tempted to tell them how to fix things or how to see things differently. You want to help.

They didnt set out to trap you, but they dont want help, they just want to tell someone.

For this reason, if something is bothering me, I rarely discuss it with someone, as they will want to fix or help or whatever and the only knowledge they have of the situation is the couple of sentences of description. Its frustrating explaining to someone who wants to help, that you dont want their help, just to unload.

When the botheration of the situation is no longer an emotional thing, then its time for general discussion of halfassed suggestions, as its no longer an important thing.
