Licence for Quad/trike

What licence / entitlement do you need for these as far as I am aware you need to have a Car/bike licence prior to 2000 to have the entitlement or can you run them on a full bike licence?

A) Full car licence
B) Bike licence obtained before 2001.

Actually trike's can be ridden on a provisional car license, you have to display L plates tho and cant carry passengers and technically they have to be single seaters

From memory they may be registered as 1 three wheeled bike (yes I know) which can be ridden on class A, as a trike/light car which requires class B1 or as a car (tis weight dependant from memory) which requires class B.

If you think the law around 33bhp is shabby the laws about trikes are something else.

Oh and the reason that class B1 was stripped from Class A licences was a government study called Safer Motorcycling (the cunts) that concluded that driving a car is better preperation for riding a trike than riding a bike is.

Bunch of fucking twats obviously have NEVER ridden a trike and dont have a fucking clue how they handle, because while a trike doesn't handle as either a bike or car it is a damn site closer to handling like a bike.

It is feasible to have the B1 classification without the B - you can even take a B1 only test - however most test centres will look blankly at you if you try.

I can imagine it is errm interesting to ride. And if out for a spin you would have to wear a lid anything above 30/40 with my visor open and my eyes water terribly, also the state my visor gets in the summer I would hate for that to be my face

Any vehicle with less than 4 wheels weighing less than 410kg is classified as a motorcycle and can be driven on a full bike license if over 410 kg must have a car license

So even if the trike was classed as a motorbike, I'm taking it even with a full car licence, you cant ride it unless you have a bike one?

Although you can ride the heavier ones classed as cars?

Ignore the weight for the moment, and just conentrate on what the V5c says.

Essentially it is possible to have two identical trikes which weight less than 450. One has been registered as a Trike requiring class B1 to ride and one registered as a three wheeled motorbike requiring class A instead...

It caused me a few nosebleeds. If you are really interested then NABD are the people to go ask.

The law for trikes is a balls ache. Once it is built its not so bad, just look at the documents.
