Calm now??? Excellent Smithers, now reread my post

As it happens my Viking partner in crime is learning to ride a bike next year (after me nagging him - it was surfing this year) and we were looking to tour Wales.

Sorry buddy, it's just I read "we give 50% of the profit to charity" as we keep 50% of the profit after we've covered our costs.

If I got sponsored to do a parachute jump and told everyone I would keep half the money for myself then you would expect a bit of negativity.

He is not asking for cash so he can do something he likes doing ( A practice that I abhor) he has done something and written a book about it, you get the book and he and the charity get some money. The difference to buying a book normally is that in that case only the author (and their agent etc) get paid.
If we separate this into its separate parts we see that what he has done is write a book and is donating half of the proceeds to a kids charity.
I fail to see what part of that angers people enough to wish to kick him in the balls. Grow up.

nobody wants to kick rocco in the balls. We were discussing kicking the pope in the balls.

On the charidee subject, hes using some of the money to fund the next project.

I'm not angry, I didn't even rate the post.

Point is if a bloke from Microsoft stuck an advert for his wares up on here it would be considered spam. This was not rated as such by most people because they thought it's a charity; I'm just pointing out that it isn't really a charity.

To put it another way, I would not be allowed to set up a charity that consisted of me paying people to walk around with buckets collecting for starving kids if the deal was that I kept half the cash they made after I'd paid them.

I could sit at home raking it in Laughing

If I write a book and spend the cash on rent boys that is my business as would it be if I used the money to feed myself. That is all he is doing. The only difference being is that he has told you what he is going to use the cash for, I wouldn't.

Obviously there's no problem with what he's doing in that respect, the point is he's advertising on our forum which is normally only (just) acceptable if it's a charity.

If you advertised your rent boy funding book on here though it would be rated as spam (or maybe as "informative" Laughing ).

I agree with PhilDawsonbloke...

Lulu is pretty good.
www.lulu.com

My ex wrote his autobiography after he gave up boozing (had to do something with his time, LOL) and we published it on there.

He actually paid for a load of copies to be produced and posted to him, and then he knocked them out to his new friends at AA, who were all terribly impressed.

If you want to self-promote, you have to be quite bold to push yourself and your product onto people ... but once you find your market (and don't upset people with spam, LOL) ... and/or use the blogging and normal marketing routes (flyers, ads - preferably unpaid, etc), but it certainly does work

Its not too difficult to get your head around how to paginate properly, break chapters in relevant places, produce a PDF and make a cover - most of which Lulu offer to do for you (at a price) if you aren't up to it.

We managed to produce a fairly decent looking book.
(although I did have fairly extensive experience, having worked in publishing for a few years), but many of the other authors on that site certainly haven't had the benefit of that experience and many people produce some decent books on there.

I highly recommend Lulu.
